Alexandretta is the scum of the earth, literally - or rather, her parents were, and in this case, while she's trying to outgrow that legacy, some things just can't be ignored.

Al, or Lexie, or Allie, or whatever, is a SS3 - this is from her criminal roots, her parents were smugglers, and as a child, she was used as a mule for illicit anagathics. Not only were these low-grade and cheap, but so was the packaging. Alexandretta ended up hospitalized when the packagings ripped and flooded her system, and became the poster child of why you don't give anagathics to youth. After she was released from medical care, she ended up wandering the spacelanes, moving from one ship to the other, her guardianship being passed from one crew to the next and her education being shipboard operations, engineering, navigation.

Twenty-six years later, the curse of the angathics is obvious and provides for a small pittance as medical science continues to examine her for long-term effects, because while she continues to mentally age, her physiology has been slowed by a factor of eight - and the past twenty-six years have seen her physically age just over three years, giving her the appearance of an eleven-year-old. Is she bitter? A little, but her IDs give her a medical alert so that people think that she's a special medical condition. The anagathics have increased her Endurance - she can take considerably more damage than the average adult, heals far more quickly and has a very high pain threshold because of it.

Due to her slow aging, she has been in and out of hospitals and is a continuing post-script in several medical magazines - and is also considered as S.S.-3 Special Services Tier 3, entitled to free emergency medical assistance and a government supplied home and pension.
