Allen started out as another idealistic young agent. He’s always been a smooth talker and was thus put on liaison duty with a particularly eccentric subcontractor who specialized in a variety of high-tech weapons technology. Unfortunately, the individual in question proved to be more unstable than previously believed, and disabled him and managed to abscond with him. He was put through about a month of hell while he was trained under a variety of hypnotic and virtual reality methodologies designed to destroy his personality and craft him into the perfect weapon. The specific program featured unarmed combat as something of a test run. That part worked like a charm. The personality removal? Not so much, and Allen was a very good actor. He killed the doctor and escaped back to his superiors. He’s since been tested rather extensively, and he can spar perfectly normally, shoot a gun as well as he ever could, make logical tactical decisions, etc. It’s just that if he gets into a real hand to hand fight, his programming can kick in, and then he starts killing people (something he REALLY wants to avoid). This was not deemed sufficient reason to keep him out of the field. Sometimes his superiors are bastards.

Outside of his little problem, Allen is still a friendly, intelligent, idealistic young man, with an encyclopedic knowledge of nearly every super-being on earth, as well as friends in high places, and the abilities to talk anyone into anything, and to tell rather accurately whether he’s being lied to.
