Pursuit of the Quarry[edit]

The glorious duel between the Second General and I was interrupted by an invasion of demons under the lead of Sardonyx, the representative from Gem. This, especially in light of the news I have been receiving, makes me very concerned as to the goings on in that city. I am also curious as to why he would attack at this Ball, and to what ends. Diamond pursued our villain; perhaps he discovered something that can shed some light on the motive behind the attack.

I must admit, even I was surprised at the presence of Stalker at this event. His mark, the Guild Factor Saham, was dead before any could even notice. Though, two concerns come to mind after witnessing the Stalker. First, he is undoubtedly an essence-wielder, though not one I could readily identify. The second has been a concern of mine for as long as I've known of this assassin. Many would look at the fees he charges for his work and would figure he hunts for the money, yet I find this uncompelling. A man could live in wealth his entire life for even half what Stalker supposedly earns in a kill. This means there must be some other motivation, and something he wishes to conceal, either from others or himself. My conversation with him only fueled these concerns. Either way, it creates an uneasy feeling for the well-being of Chiaroscuro. I shall inform the skulk to be watchful of his presence.

The Factor's death also creates an unforeseen opportunity. A sudden power vaccuum like this will undoubtedly come with strife inside the local ranks of the Guild. Here is a chance to strike them at their weakest and most disorganized point. And now, with three Exalted of the Sun in the mix, I feel sure we can liberated a great deal from the Guild's coffers. I hope Kestrel and Diamond are amenable. We shall have to discuss it.

Also, I am curious as to the Vizier's response to the loss of his brother. My highest hope is this would serve to sever the ties between the Chiaroscuro and the Guild, but I have clutching feeling in my stomach that he was either aware or even instigated the kill. How I hope I am wrong.

On a brighter note, Watch-Captain Abdul-Malik Shariff also made an appearance at the event. If only he understood the greater picture... He is a good man, but like so many, he doesn't understand that I come to liberate our people, not to take from them! Still, I suppose it wouldn't be half as enjoyable to perform if there wasn't a chance to be caught. May the Sun watch over you, Shariff. I do hope you find our next performance breathtaking.
