History[edit]

Once, Alphonse was a proud heir of House Cannith; as a skilled artificer, his star had risen high and it seemed there was no limit to how far he could go... until an expedition into Xen'drik resulted in his being consumed by an ancient storm giant creation forge, his soul infused into a crude facsimile of a warforged. A lesser man might have despaired of his predicament, but Alphonse d'Cannith saw this as an opportunity. After repairing his new construct body as well as he could, he limped his way back to Stormreach, offering fistfuls of alchemical diamonds to the captain who would take him to his ancestral home. There, he was met with considerable alarm, particularly from that faction of the house which saw warforged as little more than tools. But Alphonse was undeterred; seeing his kinsmens' irrational fear of him, he resolved to continue his work on his own, using himself as the testbed for his new inventions if need be.

Fortunately, he retained his tenure at Morgrave University, and his lectures were few enough that he could conduct them in his old human guise using one of the many wands he'd built for himself. But now, with the chance for another expedition to Xen'drik within his grasp, Alphonse and his graduate student assistant Orie are eager to revisit that mysterious continent...
