Background[edit]

A quiet but ambitious man in his mid 20's, born in the Real City. Alse grew up poor in goods, like everyone else in his clan. However, they were rich in secrets and knowledge and used it to good effect in the community. Many of the second and third sons or daughters had joined the Spiritwalkers of the Pavis ancestors and could draw on an uninterrupted history in Pavis from its inception. Though most of their ancestor spirits were not great warriors or priests, they were witness to many events and that has proved valuable over the years. Alse was apprenticed to a Zebra Shaman when he was 12 after he was hit by a poisoned arrow crossing the rubble in a trade van. The Shaman of the Zebra Riders healed him, his parents took it as a sign and agreed to a fostering. He served there for 5 years, then returned to his parents home to take on family duties. However, the sights and sounds of New Pavis had drawn him during his time at Zebra fort and the pens...and the different tales he had heard of Pavis the mangod, from another point of view, drew his curious mind. When the Lunars seized control five years ago, he took it as a sign and moved to New Pavis.

Alse, as a Britigne, takes his responsibility to his ancestors seriously and has become an initiate of the founder Pavis cult in New Pavis, saving to own a home as befits a citizen. He is determinedly friendly to all Pavis worshippers, despite any other affiliations, and views all 'outsider' conflicts as worthy of contempt, whether occupying Lunar or rebel Sartarite.

He recently [last sacred time] wed Ermni White hair of the Zebra tribe, a bright eyed pixie of a Praxian he met while studying with the tribal shaman. She is somewhat restless in New Pavis (and a little ashamed of the tribesmen here), but sees it as a temporary thing. If Alse becomes a full Shaman, walls wont hold him and if he doesnt, then they will go to her people on the chapparral of Pavis County. Alse is unsure on his own feelings in this, but has agreed to a year and a days trial of their current position. Ermni, on the other hand, is a total urbanophile and her wry, frank talk is a contrast to the normal,more sedate women of Pavis.

They share the upper floor of a tenement townhouse [O-10 on the Pavis map]that is on the border of Oldtown, Suntown, Farmers Quarter and across the street from the Uleria temple. It is about as bohemian as a young couple in Pavis can get.

Alse hopes to catch the eye of a useful patron in the fulfilling of his duties, but is more interested in his spiritual studies than worldy rewards - as long as his wife and family to be are well looked after. He views the Lunar occupation with equanimity, unsure if they are really as bad as the Sartarites make them out to be. As the temple attitude is to be friendly to the occupiers, that is his approach too.

He is actually quite amenable to turning a blind eye and even accepting a little gratuity now and then...but it very much depends on what and who. Context would be everything, and he is, at the core, a fairly decent fellow.

Flaws: Ambitious, Overconfident, cash strapped. Merits: Loyal, flexible, devout citizen. Follower of Pavis and member of the Spiritwalkers of Pavis lodge.
