Joining the military turned out to be a great idea, sure it was hard but after boot camp it got a lot more interesting. The chemicals that they gave him turned out to be a boon to him, when the blast came it tore into the rest of the squad, well almost everyone. He was untouched by the blast, or so he thought. As first that was bad as one of the men had been turned into a god, or so he said, by the blast. He was just the same guy that was there before.

As everyone showed up and the questions started, he did not know what to say. How did he survive? I don't know. Did the blast hurt? No, not really. Can you do anything special? No. The questions sounded like they were a little disappointed that he survived and did not get powers. They were crazy, he didn't want to be a mutant.

After everything died down, they transferred him to weapons research. While there, he was a part of armor research. They could not find a way to adjust their new suit of battle armor to respond to the brainwaves of the common solder. It was during a weapons test that thing went from good to great.

The base was attacked, the MILITARY base was attacked, these were not normal solders. They shot up the lab and were working their way to research. Looking around, there was only one thing that MIGHT work, he donned the armor. Just as he turned the suit on the gunmen burst into the room and shot the other scientist, several times. He found that the suit worked great for him, no discomfort at all. The weapons also reasoned quickly and on target.

With the unknown agents dead he moved over to the dying scientist just in time to hear his last words.

"Use the suit to fight crime and injustice." The man died.

What a waste, who makes those his last words? Maybe something like "Tell my wife I love her" or "OH Sh*t, I've been shot." He laughed to himself, no there was no money in heroes. He thought about the god created at the blast, that's what I want only without the mutation.

He left the service that day and didn't look back. The world would come to fear the approach of .... The Armadillo.
