Dez Fitzpatrick has grown up in a fancy section of Eastgrove to a set of well-off but distant parents. Rarely able to connect to other kids, who often see him as a strange misfit, he's taken solace in using computers and being online, making friends in cyberspace that he couldn't make in the physical world. He never learned how to ride a bike but he could hack into the Pentagon by the time he was eight. Eventually his computer skills lead him to finding occult stuff online, then joining a group of hackers who use magic as well (the Technopagan Alliance), hanging out all the time on their Discord server and swapping spells, and then finally, in an obscure corner of the "darkweb", he found someone with the handle of ~*dArKmAsTa69*~, who knew more than any of the technopagans, and says he'll teach Dez without expecting anything in return, and yet...
