Complications

Motivation: Recognition: Blackbird has created something amazing and put his life on the line for fun and country. He's keenly aware that due to being black, his country will never recognize him for this. While it's a long shot, he hopes that this might be the chance to get recognized for his works rather than be ignored and cast aside.

Motivation: Thrills: Blackbird created the flight-suit for daredevil aerial performances. The war is just that on a larger scale. Who can really say the enjoy life, when they haven't risked losing it a time or two?

Obsession: Despite everything, he is an engineer at heart. When faced with a new piece of technology or engineering, his first instinct is to take it apart and figure out how it works.

Background

[To be fleshed out later]

• Fell in love with flight when his parents took him to see the Five Blackbirds, the first (and as far as I can tell only) black flying circus.
• By the time he got older, the age of flying circuses was waning, but studying engineering to learn more about aeronautics.
• Stumbled upon a way to make Daedalium, an alloy that was strong and was able to generate tremendous amount of lift. Something,something technobabble flying on Earth's magnetic field.
• When discovery is ignored, makes flight suit and joins one of the last Flying Circuses as the Mysterious Blackbird. A gimmick the circus likes, since the suit wasn't technically an airplane new government regulations regarding airplanes didn't apply.
• Did some minor crime-fighting during this time.
• Signed up for the military when he heard the government was looking for people with extraordinary abilities.
