Kayleigh isn't a pretty girl. Nor is she a popular girl, or a sporty girl, or a smart girl. She's just a girl who does her best to go through life unnoticed, because in the world of high school being the unpopular unliked girl is hell.
She plays video games to escape her life and all it involved. The game itself changes, but she always plays the same character: Kelina Blackheart, the stealthy elven assassin, respected (or at least feared) by other players. Sometimes when she takes her time hunting them down, she likes to imagine the other players are her school bullies.
Trapped in a strange and frightening world, it's so easy for Kayleigh to fall back on the character of Kelina. Kelina wouldn't be scared of a few goblins, she wouldn't be too nervous to talk to people. Kelina wouldn't be homesick for her family and her cat. She's strong, and confident, and people don't bully her.
