Backstory[edit]

Salmoncatcher came into the world as a lowly stump, lovingly carved on commission of the woodworkers' guild into an intricate totem of the mountain brown bear, but Coyote had other plans for him. Why should a totem carving sit about like a stump? It was no longer a stump. It had been transformed, had it not?

And so Coyote took the transformation one step further, and gave Salmoncatcher life, sending him from his tribe to study with the man who had formed him, to learn how to take lumps of inert wood into vibrant art.

And in time, Salmonchaser returned to his tribe to carve their totems.

He would wander the forests and mountains in search of whatever fallen wood spoke to him whenever he wasn't hauling fish out of the rivers with the other fishermen of the tribe. He felt strange around his own people. They were flesh, he was wood, and though both had life, still he felt strange

Until he met the Ancient Tree.

Coyote had given him life but the Old One gave him purpose. Salmoncatcher spent much time sitting at the feet of the Callisto druids, but their art and focus escaped him. The tricks the Ancient Tree taught him, however? Those he took to like a bird to the sky.

Now Salmoncatcher wanders the mountains with Peck, his faithful woodpecker familiar. He still fishes for the tribe and carves their totems, but he has become restless . . .
