I don’t know how long I have walked the earth. How many times I have died. How many times I have lived. For most of it I was mad. Connected to the minds of others with little to no means of telling the difference between me and thee and every other he and she.

That all changed in the past generation. The machines began to speak. In ones and zeros their words marched across my mind and made order of the chaos. And with that order came a new understanding. I could separate my mind from the minds of others, but I could still see their thoughts, their egos their ids, their dreams.

Without being overtaken.

And I could reach into the machines, the computers. I could understand their purpose and design at a glance and order their processes with but a thought as I chose. And it changed me.

For centuries, life was a trick played on me.

Now I am the Trick.

  • SFX: Immunity - Spend 1 PP to ignore stress, trauma, or complications from physical blows.
  • SFX: Berserk - Add a die from the doom pool to one or more attack actions. Step up the doom pool die by +1 for each action; return it to the doom pool when you’re done.
  • SFX: Versatile - Split Staff of Souls into two dice at –1 step, or three dice at –2 steps.
    • Staff of Souls - Apparently carved from a single length of bone or ivory, the staff is etched end to end with a thousand human faces, each bearing a distinctly unique expression: Joy, Terror, Ecstasy, Indifference, Rage, Pain, etc . . .

Limit: Gear - Shutdown a Staff of Souls and gain 1 PP. Take an action vs. the doom pool to recover.

  • SFX: Second Chance - Spend 1 PP to reroll when using any Immortal Mind power.
  • SFX: Unleashed - Step up or double any Immortal Mind power for one action. If the action fails, add a die to doom pool equal to the normal rating of your power die.

Limit: Conscious Activation - While stressed out, asleep, or unconscious, shutdown Immortal Mind. Recover Immortal Mind when you recover that stress or wake up.

Limit: Exhausted - Shutdown any Immortal Mind power and gain 1 PP. Recover power by activating an opportunity or during a Transition Scene.

Backstory[edit]

Trick doesn't know if he's a time tossed wandering immortal, or a disinherited demigod, or the forgotten Trickster of some long dead culture, or just a garden variety madman with superpowers. In his rare moments of passing clarity he believes he can trace his existence to pre-christian Ireland or Britain, but suspects he was old even then.

He hasn't given up hope that one day he will remember more. After all, he's only been sane for a handful of decades.

For now he helps H.U.N.T.E.R., partially as a means of not slipping back into madness, but mostly because working with them gives him certain access to global resources only they possess. Resources that might contain answers otherwise lost to time.
