Capes in Missassauga - Story Facts - Session 1[edit]

Scene 1

The scene begins with a party taking place in the small, seaside Southern California town of Springfield. This party is taking place at Jason's Dad's house, and involves considerable underage drinking, some drug use, and skateboarding in the empty pool behind the house.

Jason's Dad arrives on the scene unexpectedly, and is very angry about the party. He begins yelling at the kids to get out of his house. Cynthia Smith is a guest at the party, and nervously attempts to hide the keg of beer, so that Jason will not get in any more trouble with his father.

Upstairs, Johnny Smiles has met Julia, and there has been an instant rapport between them. They have been in earnest conversation for about an hour regarding environmentalism, vegetarianism, and other topics of mutual interest, and they are rapidly falling in love. Johnny hears Jason's Dad enter the house, and realizes what may be his one chance at romance is about to be destroyed, He rushes downstairs without much thought, and ends up tripping and falling down them.

Meanwhile, what appears to be a comet is rapdily approaching the planet Earth. There appears to be a spaceship caught in the tail of this object, buffeted by the debris. The spaceship is piloted by an agent of the Intergalactic Police Force, who has been chasing the occupants of the "comet", actually an organic space vessel, for some time. This agent is an octupoid like alien, with multiple arms and eyes. However, for some reason the alien police officer's ship is dying, and will soon be destroyed. The police officer fires a message beacon from it's torpedo tubes, and then rants briefly on the subject of justice for it's foe. It also expresses concern for the sentients of Earth, should the power source of its vessel be destroyed and its energies be released. "How might it change them?" it asks itself.

On board the "comet", the evil alien overlord is exhorting his people, telling them that the prophesied moment has arrived. The appearance of these aliens and their overlord is not clear. The overlord states that his people are on the verge of invading Earth, for the purpose of conquest, and to use the population of that planet as food.

At this same time, on Earth, Johnny has decided the best way to distract Jason's Dad is to fake a broken arm from his fall down the stairs. Johnny really isn't thinking straight. He begins to complain loudly about his arm. Jason's Dad checks Johnny out, and decides he must take Johnny to the hospital. With some more yelling, Jason's Dad is able to get most of the kids to leave his house, as he carries Johnny (who is very embarrassed by this treatment) outside.

Cynthia, meanwhile, has managed to hide the keg behind a potted silk flower bush, and also leaves the house. She looks up and notes a strange green light in the sky, wondering what it could be. She is very intelligent and knowledgeable, and realizes that the light cannot possibly be natural.

As Cynthia, Jason's Dad, and Johnny, along with other kids, are looking up, the Intergalactic Police Force officer's ship disintegrates, and its power source is destroyed. The energies from the power source are released in the form of a shower rays of green light (heretoforward called the "green ray" event) that irradiated the planet Earth. Many people are struck by these radiations, including several at the party at Jason's Dad's house.

The destruction of the police vessel may have had an affect on the organic vessel of the evil alien overlord. This vessel sheds its icy coating, and also begins to disintegrate. It appears that several escape pods of some variety were used.

Jason's Dad, Johnny, Cythia, and a boy named Brad, at a minimum, are struck by the green rays outside Jason's Dad's house. Brad, whose arms suddenly seem to pulsate and mutate with energy, bumps against Bobby Smiles, Johnny's older brother. Johnny and Jason's Dad, in physical contact at the moment the rays strike, both feel very strange, and begin to become translucent. Cynthia feels quite strange as well, new thoughts and ideas rushing into her mind.

Cynthia now notes that Bobby Smiles seems to be glowing in an alarming fashion. She suspects that he may be about to release energy in a dangerous manner. She rapidly converts her cell phone into a repulsor ray, which she uses to push all of the kids nearby away from the house some distance. Unfortunately, due to a basic miscalculation, she herself is pushed back by the reaction of the repuslor beam and sent flying away from the house.

The larger portion of the overlord's spacecraft is at this moment tearing through the Earth's atmosphere, and impacts into the Pacific ocean off of the coast of Springfield. Normally, the tsunami this impact generated would have caused great destruction, but as will be seen shortly, its impact was overshadowed by other events.

Bobby Smiles is beginning to glow quite intensely, generating enough heat to cause convection currents around him. Meanwhile, Johnny and Jason's Dad appear to be turning into some kind of gas state, dissipating into a mist and rapidly losing consciousness. The last thing Johnny sees is Julia, the first girl he ever loved, coming out of the house near Bobby's rapidly heating form.

Cynthia, realizing she was in great danger, is able to rapidly convert her clothing into a form of armor, and convert her PDA into a kind of flight pack. She launches herself into the sky, trying to get away from the developing situation.

Bobby suddenly and inexplicably shifts physical location, and finds himself in space, directly above Springfield. He briefly experiences a kind of transcendental emotional state, in which he is certain he has achieved a pinacle of human existence that will never be surpassed. And then, he detonates, presumably fatally, with the force of 1000's of nuclear weapons.

The force of this explosion rapidly travels to Earth, with the epicenter of the blast Springfield, CA. The town of Springfield and anything else for miles around is completely destroyed. The San Andreas fault, under the combined effects of Bobby's detonation and the impact of the alien space craft, suddenly slips, generating massive earthquakes throughout the Western United States. The loss of life and property from these cataclysmic events has not yet been determined.

Meanwhile, around the world, the effects of the "green ray" event are only beginning to be felt...
