Backstory
Some people don't like the cold unforgiving vacuum of space. Martin Shaw isn't one of them. His entire family has been in space since the early 2200s. They were some of the first "boomers". Thus, Captain Shaw has been in the black for a very, very long time. If he's being honest, he's spent more time in space than on the ground and that's the way he likes it.
Martin doesn't have time for this. At all. Ever. Years of dealing with every stupid fool in the black have left him cynical and irritated.
Proxima Centauri isn't that far away from Sol but it's a major trade hub and university town. Martin has met almost all of the major species in the Galaxy. And most of the minor ones.
Shaw worked for the CCC for 15 years. Chances are if you name the mission Martin has been on one.
