<@Random_Nerd> So! Chuubo!
<@Verithe> Yes!
<@Random_Nerd> Laz, are you still unsure if you want to keep playing as Jasper?
<@lazarus> yeah.

  • BethE is now known as Rinley
  • Knockwood is now known as Dulcinea

<@Random_Nerd> Any thoughts on who you'd play?

  • Etheric is now known as Suzy

<@Dulcinea> Rainbow Dash is still available
<@lazarus> I'll play Jasper this session, and look for something else for next

  • lazarus is now known as Jasper
  • Jasper is now known as TheSun

<@Random_Nerd> We currently have openings for... lemme see. Chuubo, Entropy II, Natalia, Mirame. And... am I forgetting one?

  • Verithe is now known as Hisui

<@Dulcinea> Depends on whether you want to keep the all-girl vibe
<@Random_Nerd> Eh, all characters come in either sex.
<@Suzy> Wasn't the glassmaking Professor a Main Character?
<@Random_Nerd> So, like, Attaris II, say.
<@Random_Nerd> No, he isn't.
<@Random_Nerd> Is he?
<@Random_Nerd> I thought he was just supporting cast?
<@Hisui> Was the professor an alternate to Mirame?
<@TheSun> I may decide to drop out of the playtest after this, or I may decide to keep Jasper. I don't know ... -_-;
<@Suzy> No, they're separate characters in the backstory.
<@Suzy> I'll check the PDF... I probably mnisremembered
<@Dulcinea> You mean the guy that made the dragon?
<@Random_Nerd> Mirame collaborated on the dragon.
<@Random_Nerd> But the alternate Mirame Mesmer is Reynard Mesmer.
<@Dulcinea> Fox Mesmer?
<@Hisui> Yes!
<@Random_Nerd> So, do any of those appeal to you, Laz?
<@Suzy> Right, the glassmaker guy is an NPC.
<@Dulcinea> (Who's Scully, then? :) )
<@Suzy> And theree are only eight characters, although the file is named "Nine Characters."
<@Random_Nerd> There's "the other one."
<@Suzy> That might be why the confusion.
<@Random_Nerd> In this case, Hisui.
<@Suzy> Ah, okay.
<@TheSun> RN: not immediately.

  • @Hisui waves

<@Random_Nerd> Okay.
<@Random_Nerd> So, ready to go?
<@Random_Nerd> We can assume that the rest of you got back from the "Ghost Pirate Ship."
<@Hisui> Yes.
<@Suzy> I missed a ghost pirate ship? You guys have all the fun.
<@Rinley> There was an ogre...
<@Hisui> Hisui can take you some time.
<@Dulcinea> a not-civilized ogre
<@Random_Nerd> So, shall we start the next morning?
<@Hisui> Yes!
<@Dulcinea> Remind me, what was the plan before the divagation to the ship?
<@Hisui> Hisui will eat her breakfast of fish, rice and pickles.
<@Hisui> Jasper shivs the Prince in Bluebell Park?
<@Random_Nerd> Or dates him. Or both!
<@Rinley> Yep, we were going to talk Jasper into taking the Prince on a walk into Bluebell Park where she shivs him where the sun don't shine.
<@Suzy> The idea was Jasper invites the Prince to Bluebell Park, and surprises him by dueling instead of dating, and is able to kill him or force his surrender as a result. I think.
<@Dulcinea> Ah yes. I should probably put up various wards.
<@Hisui> Did we already send the invitation or were we waiting to do that?
<@Random_Nerd> Not yet.
<@Suzy> Last I was here, we were waiting for Jasper to agree to this, but I missed at least one session.
<@Random_Nerd> Yes, that.
<@Dulcinea> (I basically get one ultra-magic thingie per chapter of the game, right?)
<@Random_Nerd> And if she doesn't want to... Suzy could wear a Jasper wig and pretend to be her?
<@Random_Nerd> (Without spending MPs, yes.)
<@Suzy> I keep telling you that's a bad idea...
<@Random_Nerd> So, where should we have you guys meet up?
<@Rinley> We have multiple sessions to plan around Jasper.
<@Rinley> Jasper's house?
<@Dulcinea> or school
<@Random_Nerd> Not School! This is Glass, which is not about School!
<@TheSun> The restaurant.
<@Random_Nerd> Sure.

START[edit]

<@Random_Nerd> The flounder, with expert precision, sits right atop the line that divides "So greasy it's delicious" and "So greasy I don't even want to think about eating."
<@Dulcinea> (Actually, just realized Dulc should look and dress like Death from Sandman...)
<@Rinley> (...Dulc is not perky.)
<@Random_Nerd> That's gotta take work. Making food that hovers in a state of quantum indeterminacy with regard to edibility takes work.
<@Random_Nerd> (Not like Wednesday Adams?)

  • @Rinley devours the food, because, well, fish.

<@Random_Nerd> It's unclear what the purpose behind this carefully positioned quasi-food is, though. Possibly part of the complicated schemes of the Angel of Fortitude?
<@TheSun> (the purpose is deliciousness)

  • @Dulcinea munches away at the bits with less grease.
  • @TheSun eats the greasy bits!
  • @Suzy takes a small bite and chews it carefully.
  • @Hisui picks at her food, her thoughts elsewhere.

<@Rinley> (I found this and said Dulc should dress like that. I got the comment that Dulc might not have boobs yet... http://imageshack.us/a/img7/2096/kaytbyfelicefawn.png )
<@Dulcinea> "So, what is planned for today?"
<@TheSun> "Lunch. It's flounder."
<@Rinley> "Jasper hasn't told us whether she'll go to Bluebell Park or not." *munch*
<@Dulcinea> "After. And I wonder about that."
<@TheSun> "When do I have to tell you?"
<@Rinley> Well, we would prefer it be before the masquerade party and preferrably before more cat slaughter bbq fires are started."
<@TheSun> "Um."
<@TheSun> "What did you want me to do again?"
<@Random_Nerd> The short order cook behind the bar coughs and points to the "don't talk about horrible things while people are eating" sign.

  • @TheSun waves at him. And winks! Cooks like winks!

<@Dulcinea> "Invite His HIghness to Bluebell Park, for starters."
<@Random_Nerd> He grunts, and returns to producing baffling food with nonchalant lack of focus.
<@Suzy> "Um, the idea is, if I have it right... An invitation to Bluebell Park can be eiither a duel with swords, or a date. And the Prince of Cats wants to marry Jasper, so the hope is that he would expect it to be the date kind. So Jasper, you invite him to Bluebell park and then surprise him with a sword and beat him... I think?"
<@Rinley> (But if we don't talk about horrible things when people are eating, they will never get talked about. There are always people eating somewhere!)
<@Dulcinea> "Remind me to make you a special sword for the occasion, if you go that way."
<@Rinley> "How good are you with weapons, Jasper?"
<@TheSun> "I ... don't know."
<@Random_Nerd> (Does "Limb to devour evil" count as a weapon?)
<@TheSun> "I've never used a sword. That I remember. Or that I'm going to tell you I remember anyway."
<@TheSun> (probably ^_^. I'm hoping it counts)
<@Dulcinea> (Does the Prince really count as "evil", though?)
<@Random_Nerd> (Let's find out!)
<@Random_Nerd> (*imagines Chuubo-verse Mythbusters*)
<@TheSun> (... there's enough explosions)
<@Dulcinea> "Hm. I could probably put together some training dummies..."
<@Random_Nerd> (Enough... explosions? I mean, I know those words...)
<@Dulcinea> "Well, my minions could."
<@TheSun> (there are sufficient explosions for it to be counted mythbusters?)
<@Suzy> "You have minions?"
<@Dulcinea> "Well, I'm on good terms with several families of spiders."
<@Rinley> (Arachne!)
<@Random_Nerd> (This town contains both Dulcinea/Leonardo, and Rinley.)
<@Random_Nerd> (There will BE explosions.)
<@Rinley> (*innocent* I said *INNOCENT*)
<@Dulcinea> "I'm sure I could convince them to web together a few of the skeletons lying around."
<@Dulcinea> "whoops, the sign..."
<@Rinley> "But you have to do it, like now, Jasper. There will be...horrible things but not in a descriptive way so as to put you off of eating your delicious food."
<@TheSun> "The food would be more delicious with the solving of problems! .... ... no, I didn't think that worked as a sentence either."
<@Dulcinea> "I may be rubbing off on you.
<@Rinley> (They have creams for that.)
<@TheSun> (>_>)
<@Dulcinea> "Though I suspect that would qualify as horrible. Let's finish our food."
<@Rinley> "So, you send a note to the Prince, we train you in a fabulous montage and then you kill the bastard. Or kiss him, whatever. You shouldn't marry him, though."
<@Dulcinea> (no reaction to me talking about skeletons lying around?)
<@Rinley> (Bah, skeletons.)
<@Rinley> (We were just chased by an ogre in a ghost ship. Bah, skeletons.)
<@TheSun> "I should kiss him as he's dying, just for the pathos."
<@Hisui> (Hisui's not paying attention)
<@Random_Nerd> Cook, in between grunts: "Don't kiss dying people. It's not nearly as romantic as you young people think."
<@TheSun> (Aiki chit to RN)
<@Dulcinea> "Ahem. Anyway. If you don't mind the ambiance of Old Molder, we can go there and decide how to proceed."
<@Rinley> "Kiss him, then shiv him? Kidneys and so forth?"
<@TheSun> "Anyone have any of those fancy pen things? Cook?"
<@Random_Nerd> Cook: "I assure you, no pen you can find in here is in any way fancy, unless you construe 'fancy' as equivalent to 'has a 50% chance or greater of containing ink'."
<@Dulcinea> (fancy pen things?)
<@TheSun> (calligraphy pen)
<@Hisui> (she's Jasper)
<@Rinley> (Sounds like something Dulc would have.)
<@Rinley> (With a skull on the top.)
<@Hisui> (I just assume she thinks any pen is a fascinating device)
<@TheSun> (well, yeah, but some are fancy)
<@TheSun> (for fancy writing and stuff)
<@Rinley> (One moment..)
<@Dulcinea> (Hm... not only do I probably have it at home, I probably have fine paper and envelopes and ways to enchant the thing to help us.)
<@Hisui> (Vellum or parchment?)
<@Random_Nerd> (I'm going to just say that an appropriate pen appears inconspicuously for no reason, because if you guys debate how to find a pen for an hour of real time, I will kill myself.)
<@Rinley> (Then lets away to your house! Now. Before RN kills us.)
<@Rinley> (And I'd have to clean it up! And we just cleaned the apartment!)
<@Random_Nerd> (Well, you were going to go to Casa Dulcinea anyway, right?)
<@Random_Nerd> (Hmm. Doesn't Dulcinea have a place in Fortitude?)
<@Dulcinea> (Old Molder)
<@TheSun> "Dulci? you have pens?"
<@TheSun> "Let's visit!"
<@Random_Nerd> (Ah, yes, Page 419, Nine Characters.)
<@Dulcinea> "Pens, quills, many things."
<@TheSun> "ooo"
<@Dulcinea> "Ariadne here could probably write the fine linework you need."
<@Random_Nerd> Ariadne: *looks up hopefully from ankle height*
<@Dulcinea> (Did I mention I figured she's resting on my shoulder? :) )
<@Random_Nerd> ...from the ankle height of a hypothetical person standing on Dulcinea's shoulders.
<@Hisui> (She's queen of the world!)
<@Random_Nerd> Or maybe there's an invisible weightless person there. You don't know!
<@Dulcinea> (Cuz, Dulc sees animate plush spiders as a fashion statement.)
<@Rinley> (Rinley agrees. Very fashionable.)
<@TheSun> (>_>)
<@Rinley> "Alright! Adventure time at Dulci's!"

  • @TheSun manifests a sunmade plushy platipus on her shoulder as a fashion statement somewhere between scenes

<@Dulcinea> (You guys still following my AT thread? :) )
<@Rinley> (Not at the moment, but I've lost a lot of my threads at the moment.)
<@Random_Nerd> (I read the first few episodes in it, but haven't seen it for a week or two. Which episode are you up to?)
<@Dulcinea> (Just did 'Wizard')
<@Random_Nerd> (Is that the one with the shameful scream magic?)
<@Dulcinea> (No, its the one where they get all those stars)
<@Random_Nerd> So! You are in Dulcinea's place. Describe it, mistress of all things abhorrently magical and all and socially awkward!
<@Hisui> "Huh? H-hey! Wait up!"
<@Dulcinea> OK... heavy emphasis on bookshelves, dark woods and mystics sigils.
<@Dulcinea> Also waaaay too many webs.
<@Hisui> "Achpthfthfth!"

  • @Hisui swats at a web in her face.

<@Dulcinea> Everything in the area seems vaguely unclean, though you can't really point to any specific bit of dirt.
<@Random_Nerd> Arachne beams.
<@TheSun> (to Arachne) "Do you clean this place?"

  • @Rinley pokes into every little nook and cranny, exploring.

<@Random_Nerd> Arachne shrugs.
<@Dulcinea> Deep within the building, away from windows, is her sanctum...
<@Random_Nerd> (And in place of pride... her laborously imported collection of Twilight books and DVDs!)
<@Dulcinea> to one side is the mighty Nightmare Apparatus which looks obscenely organic while still mystical
<@Dulcinea> (Only if I wish to do a spell of corruption)
<@Dulcinea> There's are a few lesser circles, and she leads you to an old-style desk.
<@Dulcinea> Oh, there's a large... let's say man that's tending things.
<@Dulcinea> "Alvin! I've brought... acquaintances."
<@Dulcinea> (I figure the Dulc version of Alvin RIMM is a golem)
<@TheSun> (looks for chipmunkness)

  • @Rinley will high-five Alvin because of course she's visited over at Dulci's house before and gotten to know the manservant abominations.
  • @Hisui stares at Alvin like wide-eyed, frightened mouse.
  • @Dulcinea sets Ariadne on the desk and grabs some paper...

<@Random_Nerd> Alvin the Ritually Impure Golem Valet is, of course, standing in the position that is most appropriate for the task of offering a pitcher of lemonaide and several glasses to Madame and her guests.
<@Random_Nerd> He was probably there a minute ago, and you just didn't happen to look at the right place.
<@Dulcinea> *slrp*
<@Dulcinea> "Let's see...
<@Dulcinea> "Actually, we should decide on a plan before committing ink to paper. Especially this ink.
<@Dulcinea> "Many squid were frightened to bring this to us."
<@Random_Nerd> The lemonaide is probably tainted and corrupt only in highly abstract and attenuated ways. No need to worry!
<@Hisui> "What?"
<@TheSun> "Squink. Good."
<@TheSun> "Any humanskin paper?"
<@Hisui> "What?"
<@TheSun> "That's what we write important things on, right?"
<@TheSun> "I read it in a book once!"
<@Dulcinea> "You're probably thinking of vellum, which is sheep skin."
<@Rinley> "I dunno...humanskin might make the Prince like her even more."
<@Dulcinea> "Human skin is for binding certain ... special books

  • @Hisui is out of her quota of incredulous "What?"s for today and just stares, horrified.

<@Dulcinea> (XP!)
<@Dulcinea> "Oh yes, we were going to check your fighting skill.
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin holds out Bin #43: Esoteric Leather.
<@Dulcinea> "It's probably a good idea to check that before we go any further.
<@Random_Nerd> (Not to be confused with #43b, Esoteric Leather Goods.)
<@Dulcinea> "Now, where is that one blade..."
<@TheSun> "I can surprise people really good! See? BOO!"
<@Rinley> (*wiggles eyebrows* Dulci is into kinky stuff.)
<@Rinley> "Surprising Hisui doesn't count."
<@Dulcinea> "Ah yes, it's over here in the 'emergency kit'."
<@TheSun> "Oh."
<@Hisui> "Now you're just being mean!"

  • @Dulcinea goes over to a box saying "In case of screaming, break glass"

<@Dulcinea> "Now this... was wielded by a Horrible Thing in a dream of a troubled child.
<@Dulcinea> "By taking it I was able to make that child a tiny bit less troubled."
<@Dulcinea> "Didn't stop there, of course..."

  • @Dulcinea pulls out a night-black blade. You can't really see the edge...

<@Dulcinea> "Be very careful with this."

  • @TheSun reaches out with a sun-hand to grab it

<@Random_Nerd> (So, how are you making this?)
<@TheSun> (to whom was that directed, RN?)

  • @Hisui squeaks.

<@Random_Nerd> (Dulcinea. The sword.)
<@Dulcinea> (I pulled it from a nightmare, like I said)
<@Random_Nerd> (Or is it just supposed to be mundane?)
<@Dulcinea> (in between)
<@Random_Nerd> (Okay. So, low-difficulty Nightmare Magic?)
<@Dulcinea> (Then again, it may be the fractal blade Dante was always looking for. :) )
<@Dulcinea> (Yep)

  • @Suzy Quit (Disintegrated: )

<@Random_Nerd> (Okay. What does it do?)
<@Dulcinea> (slices, dices, juliennes. Extending into spirit.)
<@Dulcinea> (and ungodly sharp, of course)

  • @Hisui points to the sun arm.

<@Hisui> "What is that?"
<@TheSun> "It's an arm."
<@Random_Nerd> (Okay. So, you have Nightmare Science 2, and you're doing an Obstacle 2 effort.)
<@Hisui> "But....it's not normal! Those are your arms!"
<@TheSun> "And so is this" *waves*

  • @Hisui points to the standard two arms.

<@TheSun> (... ...) *taps Hisui with another sun-arm*
<@Hisui> "ACK!"
<@Dulcinea> "I don't see you complaining about Ariadne's extra 6 arms. :) "
<@Hisui> "Ariadne is a toy spider!"
<@Dulcinea> "Speaking of which... Ari, darling, could you and your friends assemble some fighting targets for us?"
<@Random_Nerd> (*looks up the magic rules*)
<@Dulcinea> (Well, we can hold off on the actual magic until the fight)
<@Random_Nerd> (Okay. How much will are you spending?)
<@Dulcinea> (I'm not yet. Right now it's just a nightmare sword.)
<@Random_Nerd> (But... look, this is how it works. You need to use nightmare magic to make it, before it exists as a thing in the world.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Because even the magic version of Dulcileonardo does her things in a slow building-and-discovering way, not as quick D&D magic.)
<@Dulcinea> (Ah, OK.)
<@Random_Nerd> (So, are you making a magic sword?)
<@Dulcinea> (Right now it's just a mundane sword since we're in a practice fight.)
<@Random_Nerd> (See page 430.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Okay, but remember, if you take it out of the lab, and you haven't gotten your magic on, you can't just do it on the fly.)
<@Random_Nerd> (In fact, even if you are doing magic, even if you're a d'Avignon sorcerer and not the scientist de Montreal, using this Skill probably still takes time: time spent reviewing grimoires and experimenting
<@Random_Nerd> and then casting complicated spells. It's the same process, science-like and then engineering-like, only in a pointier hat; that's just part of what Nightmares' Angel is.
<@Random_Nerd> If you want to hurry, if you want to skip past all of that — well, to a certain degree, you can. There are always corners that can be cut. But going too much faster takes you outside the thematics of the Skill and you'll suffer the same +2 Obstacle as if you'd completely abandoned science and just started burping out unicorns.)
<@Dulcinea> (Let's just get to the scene.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Okay.)
<@Rinley> (I... don't like the imagery of Dulci burping out unicorns.)
<@Rinley> "What do you know about fighting, Jasper?"
<@TheSun> "Pointy end goes in the bad guy?"

  • @Hisui has grabbed a random book and is trying to read it in hopes of ignoring whatever is happening.

<@Dulcinea> "Either that, or sharp edge hits bad guy.
<@Rinley> "Very good! And don't let their pointy ends go into you!"
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin has extended a stony finger at the pointy end of the sword.
<@Dulcinea> "Depends on the sword."
<@Dulcinea> (Now if the spiders around here have decent marionette skills we should have a somewhat animate 'dummy'... :/ )
<@TheSun> (afk a little bit)
<@Random_Nerd> Several spiders drag out the Incomperable Wooden Mannikin Figure That's Here For Some Reason, and put a spatula in its hand.
<@Rinley> (Does Dulci have any other swords around?)
<@Dulcinea> (Probably a few, if they get dreamed about a lot. Around here that's a pretty good bet.)

  • @Rinley picks up a small short sword and flits around, swishing.

<@Rinley> "Did I ever tell you of the time that Prince Eduard fought off a crab on the beach? Oh, his courtiers ate well that night! His face looked a little pinched afterwards, though."

  • @Hisui peeks out from behind the book, "Do I have to practice too?"

<@TheSun> (b)
<@Dulcinea> "Now, if your opponent is a prince, he may have decent sword skills."
<@Random_Nerd> (By the way, Laz, I'd suggest that you look over some of Jasper's powers.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Because, I mean, you can extrude magic solar tentacles that function at wish-level power, if you want.)

  • @Rinley will duel Arachne. Although Arachne has the advantage...

<@Random_Nerd> Using any special Rinley-fu here?
<@Dulcinea> (She may be coordinating the spiders puppeting the dummy)
<@TheSun> (I do remember that happens. I don't really remember what that means)
<@Random_Nerd> (Like... you can use Limb To Devour Evil once per story for no MPs.)
<@Random_Nerd> (It would tie up a Divine health level, and generate a limb that functions at Imperial Miracle power levels.)
<@Rinley> (Using Work of Fable, 1MP) I quickly stab at Arachne, but she parries me while paying attention to the dummy spiders. In an overly dramatic way, I stab at her and yet at every turn, she blocks me! We do a fantastic dance of steel and spider!
<@Random_Nerd> (See page 598 of the Nine Characters file.)
<@Random_Nerd> (And the end of 605 and beginning of 606 for stuff it might look like.)

  • @Dulcinea checks her stash of catnip...

<@Rinley> (Rinley is not high!)
<@Dulcinea> (It's for the fight later. Not related to you.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Like..."an arm-mounted glass-shattering sonic cannon")
<@Rinley> "But Archne, perhaps you do not know but...I am two-handed!" *grabs another sword, clash clash clash!*
<@TheSun> ( :D )
<@Rinley> (Or some other mecha equipment)

  • @Hisui is curious enough about Dulcinea's other swords that she goes to look at them.

<@TheSun> (could I make a sun-powered mechabot?)
<@Random_Nerd> (If you did, it would have to be part of you.)
<@Rinley> Actually, she messes up and grabs the spatula from the dummy and proceeds to duel with the spatula!
<@Random_Nerd> (Jasper doesn't build things, she becomes things.)
<@Random_Nerd> A spatula, as a general rule, is not an adequate implement for even practice duels.
<@Rinley> *clash spat clash spat spat spat ting*
<@Random_Nerd> But... it's Rinley. It works fine. Sparks even fly off it when it clashes with Arachne's sword.
<@Dulcinea> Is Jasper actually improving?
<@Rinley> (Jasper hasn't done anything yet.)
<@Random_Nerd> Is... Jasper doing something?
<@TheSun> holding a sword with a sun-hand?
<@Dulcinea> (I thought she was sparring with the dummy)

  • @Hisui grabs a pretty-looking rapier and slash at some empty space.

<@Rinley> (Rinley is playing with Arachne.)
<@Rinley> (Pretty Rapier Soldier Hisui!)
<@Hisui> (XD)
<@Random_Nerd> Okay, so, what are you trying to accomplish, here?
<@Dulcinea> Checking Jasper's sword skill to see whether trying to duel or shiv the Prince is a good idea.
<@Rinley> (I'm just having fun.)
<@TheSun> I'm ... attempting to write a letter but am stymied by having haad a sword put in my hand.
<@Random_Nerd> Grow another hand!
<@Random_Nerd> You're Jasper Irinka!
<@TheSun> I already have four! :p

  • @TheSun starts swatting at the dummy, not really paying attention to her swings.

<@Dulcinea> (Ariadne is not impressed.)
<@Rinley> "Treacherous Arachne! I see you have called forth a candymaking soldier to attack me as well!" *parries Hisui who is not even aiming at her*
<@Rinley> (I think I've been using the wrong name for the plushy spider.)
<@Dulcinea> (Ariadne)
<@Random_Nerd> (*looks through Jasper's character sheet*)
<@Rinley> (Thank you.)
<@Dulcinea> (But it's Ariadne the Arachnid, so I can't really blame you.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Man, you've got some cool stuff in here you aren't using.)
<@Rinley> "But I know your true identity! You are actually Contessa Ariadne, the seventh cousin to the queen and secret heir to the throne!"
<@TheSun> (I know that I do. I haven't had a printer in a while, and some part of me is apparently resistant to pdf absorbtion, so I'm not quite sure what cool stuff I have.)
<@Rinley> *spat spat spat* Rinley is using only the spatula now.
<@TheSun> (sword swinging isn't one of them, I'm fairly sure)
<@Random_Nerd> (Unless the sword is made of your magical sun-stuff.)
<@TheSun> (but right now it's made of nightmare fuel)
<@Random_Nerd> (So, what does Jasper want to do, right now?)
<@Hisui> "!!!"
<@TheSun> (try out the sword enough that Dulci will let her write the note ^_^)
<@Hisui> "What?"
<@Random_Nerd> Rinley isn't actually very good at dueling. But she does have feline quickness, and somehow the spatula in her hand is functioning like a well-balanced sword.
<@Rinley> "Not you, Hisui. The spider."
<@Hisui> "Oh..."
<@Random_Nerd> (Hmm. Do you want to fight evil, or inspire hope?)
<@Dulcinea> "Is this the plan? We lure the Prince out, and then everyone stabs him like he's Caesar?"

  • @Rinley will move the spatula to counter Hisui's swings even if they're not even close and feeble because it looks better to be fighting two people at the same time.

<@TheSun> (Inspire hope. That this plan will work)
<@Rinley> "I don't think Bluebell Park would like that, Dulci."
<@Random_Nerd> (Then you can tie up a Normal, Tough, or Divine health level to sprout a "limb" that helps you do that.)
<@Dulcinea> "Then we need to know about Jasper's skills without distractions."
<@TheSun> (Hm.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Like, you could use a Tough level to sprout a glowing third eye and suddenly have Superior Swording: 3.)

  • @Hisui plays along.

<@Dulcinea> "Sorry to ruin your fun."

  • @TheSun hands Dulci back her sword. "Thanks, but mine's better." (I'll spend a Normal level to make a better sword)

<@TheSun> (or, more Jaspery sword)
<@TheSun> (that behaves like the Sun! would if it were a sword)
<@Random_Nerd> (Bear in mind, any limbs you make are part of you. Maybe they don't look attached, but you can't just drop them or give them to other people.)
<@Rinley> "I'm a distraction? Cool!"
<@Random_Nerd> (Okay, what do you want your Jaspery sword to look like?)
<@Dulcinea> (If it's part of her, should it be a sword?
<@TheSun> (it would be a rapier with an overly florid basket handle, which appears to be gold but is really glowing sunstuff)
<@Dulcinea> (That guarantees it'll be hit if he has a sword.)
<@Random_Nerd> (It can be, as long as it stays in her hand. Or she can turn a hand into a sword.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Well, in her hand or at her side.)
<@Dulcinea> (You OK with your hand being hit by sharp steel?)
<@Random_Nerd> (She's immortal!)
<@Rinley> *to Hisui* "You see, the Countess has hired you to kill me to protect her secret identity, for if I were to tell the queen about her plans to stage a coup, the Countess' life would be forfeit. But you have come to late, for I have confronted her about her duty to stay true to her oath to serve the queen!"
<@TheSun> (once the flaw is pointed out, Jasper might care. For now she wants to show off a bit!)
<@TheSun> (Bad Rinley, no Illuminati with the Hisui!)
<@Rinley> *spat spat ting spat*
<@Random_Nerd> A gold-hilted rapier springs up in Jasper's hand, and indeed appears to be extruded by her palm.
<@Random_Nerd> (While you have that Normal wound, you will be treated as having Superior Swordsmanship 1.)
<@Hisui> "W-what did the Countess say?"
<@Dulcinea> (If you use a sword rather than making your hand a sword you can use a Dulci enchanted Nightmare Sword)
<@Rinley> "She assured me that she would be a much much better ruler than the queen, because, well, spiders are cool."
<@Hisui> "Oh."
<@Hisui> "Does this mean I keep fighting?"
<@Random_Nerd> Ariadne nods agreeably at Rinley.
<@Rinley> "Sure! I'm getting to the good part!"

  • @Hisui cautiously waves the pretty rapier a little more.

<@Rinley> "Alas! I myself have sworn an oath to the queen to save the realm and if the throne is taken by a devious Countess spider, what can follow but chaos and arachny?"

  • @Dulcinea looks through her books and ingredients for something specifically to fight anthro feline princes...

<@Random_Nerd> (So, the note you want to write. What does it say?)

  • @Rinley will divert Hisui's rapier to between her own arm and torso and takes an 'actor's stab to the body' action.
  • @Hisui stagegasps!

<@Hisui> "Oh wait, no. I meant to do that."

  • @Hisui stagetriumphs!

<@Rinley> "And so it ends! The Countess shall go forth with her faithful rapier candymaker, to remake the land in a fantastic silken paradise...or a webbish hell." *slumps on the floor*
<@TheSun> ("I wish to invite you to the [Keyword Here - Bluebell something?] for an evening of entertainment. -Jasper")
<@Random_Nerd> (Bluebell Park.)

  • @Hisui turns to Ariadne.

<@Hisui> "Could we go with the silken paradise, please?"
<@Rinley> (For a walk. That's the traditional way to ask.)
<@Dulcinea> (You mean a rendez-vous)
<@TheSun> (Jasper will be knowingly untraditional)
<@Dulcinea> (and you really intend to define your relationship, if you think about it.)
<@Random_Nerd> Another spider-nod.

  • @Rinley narrates from the floor. "And so Hisui the humble candy-making soldier became the General Candissima of the Spider Queen's armies!"
  • @Hisui salutes Ariadne

<@Dulcinea> Do my books say anything about feline princes?
<@Random_Nerd> Nope. There is no recorded precedent for this "Prince of Cats."

  • @Dulcinea concentrates on making Essence of Catnip...
  • @TheSun will stop practicing and go write the note. Envelope it, address the envelope to "Prince of Cats", and ask Alvin if he'd kindly deliver it.

<@Random_Nerd> (So. You have a note. You have a sword. You have a ritually impure manservant.)
<@Random_Nerd> (What more could you need?)
<@Dulcinea> "Hold on. Are you sure you want to go with this plan?"
<@Hisui> (Candy!)
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin takes it in a way that suggests, for no particular reason, that he will deliver it not kindly but with a state of moral corruption that is indetectable by even the most precise and bearded of rabbis.

  • @Hisui hands candy out to everyone, including Ariadne and Arachne....and puts one near Alvin.

<@TheSun> "I'm sure that it will go fine."
<@Random_Nerd> (What is this candy intended to do?)
<@Rinley> *continues to narrate from the floor* "But no matter the armies she conquered, the General never forgot her candy-making skills and how she had worked her way up by fighting a plucky young girl with a spatula. The memory of the girl and her hope for the land under a good ruler would drive her to make the land into the silken paradise deserved by its citizens."
<@Dulcinea> "It may be better if Alvin hands that off to the post office, actually."
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin looks up with his stone face as if both hurt and nondescriptly malign.
<@Hisui> (Hisui hopes to make people happy with the candy, but she isn't putting any extra effort into it.)
<@Hisui> (So it's a mundane happy)
<@Hisui> (If that)
<@Random_Nerd> (So, it's just delicious?)
<@Random_Nerd> (That works. Delicious is good.)

  • @Rinley will sneak her piece and continue narrating on in a more muffled tone due to candy-eating. There are pirates involved in Hisui's epic General-ing career.

<@Random_Nerd> (Rinley gets XP towards Adventure Get.)
<@Random_Nerd> )
<@Rinley> (Whoot! And a candy. *munch*)

  • @Hisui momentarily forgot she was supposed to be in character! Gets back to doing that, brandishing her pretty rapier.

<@Random_Nerd> Alvin holds the letter up, and looks up in a pose that, both obviously and nonsensically, implies "What, the Prince of Cats has a mailing address?"
<@Rinley> (Well, yes. The airship. At the Docks. Across from the ghost pirate ship.)
<@Dulcinea> (Hm, my idea to use catnip to help out Jasper should get me XP under "Natural Scientist")
<@Rinley> (Although, really the theme of spatula warriors comes up with interesting frequency around RN...)
<@Rinley> *from the floor* "Feeling better, Hi?"
<@Dulcinea> "Point. But I wonder how they'll react to you."
<@Random_Nerd> (One moment.)
<@TheSun> (I r falling asleep. I'm goign to have to call it a night. g'night. I'll see you next week)
<@Dulcinea> (Cya Jasper)
<@Random_Nerd> (Page reference, Knock?)
<@Hisui> "Yeah. Yeah, i think so."

  • @TheSun Quit (Disintegrated: Leaving)

<@Random_Nerd> (Oh, right.)
<@Random_Nerd> (In the 9 characters. 422.)
<@Dulcinea> (Yep.
<@Dulcinea> (You need a statement of a specific theory?)
<@Random_Nerd> (I think that's been superceded by the later version.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Since that was in the old quest rules.)
<@Dulcinea> to Jasper: "Plus, using a golem as a messenger means they might be on edge, which means they may guess your plan.
<@Dulcinea> "You want their messenger to deliver it so he'll take it at face value."
<@Random_Nerd> (So, it's been replaced by the more active quests like Science! and Someone's In Trouble!)
<@Rinley> "I'm glad!" *smile from the floor* "How are you, Ariadne?"
<@Random_Nerd> (Yeah, but if you're sending it by mail, doesn't that take an extra day or so?)
<@Dulcinea> (Ah... this fits both! :) )
<@Dulcinea> (well, more Magic! than Science!, bt still)
<@Rinley> (OO, that's a good point. Mail would take more time that we don't have.)
<@Rinley> (Send a spider instead? Slightly scary but not out of the ordinary and quick. Or send Rinley.)
<@Dulcinea> "Well, maybe..."
<@Random_Nerd> (Send a Rinley!)
<@Dulcinea> (That might work, plus she can give us intel.)
<@Random_Nerd> (She can move around quickly and bypass obstacles in implausible ways.)
<@Dulcinea> "Here, let's do that. Alvin, you still have that fitted tuxedo, yes?"
<@Random_Nerd> He nods.
<@Dulcinea> (We can send dressed-up Alvin and Rinley)
<@Dulcinea> (Rinley for the more personal touch. :) )
<@Rinley> (I..uh...don't have an outfit.)
<@Dulcinea> (I probably have some, if you're OK with the gothic L0lita look)
<@Hisui> (No punk goth?)
<@Dulcinea> (We want more formal)
<@Random_Nerd> (Remember "Tall Tale.")
<@Rinley> (In that, I am wearing something right now that is not appropriate to Alvin in a tux. But I have a sewing skill. Let me at your closet.)
<@Rinley> (And tell Rinley you're sending her.)
<@Dulcinea> (Actually, Rinley didn't IC say she wanted to go...)
<@Rinley> (Well that's a silly notion. When does Rinley not want to go somewhere?)
<@Dulcinea> (When she has other fun stuff to do like play-fighting.)
<@Rinley> "Ooo! I want to go!"
<@Dulcinea> "Hm..."
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin, already tuxedo-clad, shrugs.
<@Dulcinea> "You should probably wear something more formal. He is a 'prince', after all."
<@Dulcinea> (and you can hear the quotes.)
<@Rinley> "But if you sen me, I'll need a frilly dress, a small spider and a spoon."
<@Rinley> "No problem! I'll figure something out on the way!"
<@Random_Nerd> (Make sure the dress doesn't fit her yet.)
<@Hisui> "A spoon?"
<@Dulcinea> "With a frilly dress you could have several spiders... a spoon?"
<@Dulcinea> "Ariadne, round up several ... agents."

  • @Hisui narrows her eyes. "Are you expecting pudding?"

<@Rinley> "A spoon!"
<@Random_Nerd> Ariadne rummages in the kitchen, and returns with a spoon.
<@Rinley> "Nope, it's going to be part of the accoutramon!"
<@Random_Nerd> She waves it triumphantly as if holding the holy grail wrapped in the golden fleece and containing a peach of immortality.
<@Hisui> "I don't understand."

  • @Rinley takes one of Dulci's frilly dresses and a handful of spiders. Using the spiders, she crafts the dress into a hang-glider capable of carrying herself and Alvin. "We'll land nearby, I'll complete my fashion and deliver the letter!"

<@Random_Nerd> Another spider returns with a dress that is... vaguely frilly, I suppose, if you look at it from the right angle and squint, and that isn't really Rinley's size.
<@Rinley> (Correction, that is the implication of what she is going to do. What she actually does is take the stuff but then the stuff she said. She will imply the hangglider. Maybe by asking Alvin how much he weighes.)
<@Dulcinea> "Alvin, please assist Rinley with making the dress. (And make sure she doesn't destroy anything...)"
<@Rinley> "Be back in a bit, all!"
<@Rinley> (I can't do the wacky stuff onscreen. I have to be between scenes to do it.)
<@Random_Nerd> (She can fix up clothing, and travel in utterly implausible ways... but only off screen.)
<@Rinley> (Want to cut to me returning?)
<@Random_Nerd> (It's a Rinley thing.)
<@Random_Nerd> Cut to Rinley explaining what happened!
<@Dulcinea> "ALl right, Alvin... This goes to the Prince of Cats.
<@Hisui> "Rinley! You're back!"
<@Dulcinea> "Let us know all about what you see while delivering it."

  • @Rinley returns with a frilly pirate shirt that might have been part of a dress, tight leather pants and hat with a feather in it. She doffs it to you all and shows a head-tiara that looks vaguely spoonlike around her brow. "Letter delivered!"

<@Dulcinea> (it is?)
<@Random_Nerd> (It totally is!)

  • @Dulcinea appears to holding a sandwich coupon...

<@Dulcinea> "How did you get the letter...?
<@Rinley> You always look to your left when you're scheming."
<@Random_Nerd> Oh, and she was gone for like ten minutes, tops.
<@Rinley> "So, I used the spiders and the dress to make a hangglider for me and Alvin. As we were flying over the docks, we were shot down by the ghost pirate ship but those same two guys kept us from getting wet and I was able to win a pair of pants and a nice hat while playing a quick game of Go Fish."

  • @Hisui looks doubtful.

<@Random_Nerd> Alvin nods. He looks a little frightened.
<@Hisui> But Rinley's clothes do look impressive.
<@Dulcinea> "You wouldn't have a Baron Munchhausen in your family tree, would you?"
<@Rinley> "As I was waiting for my turn in cards each time, I was able to make the dress into this fabulous shirt and one of the fishermen who was once a jewelry designer developed my tiara."
<@Hisui> "Why did he give up jewelry designing?"
<@Rinley> "After a small understanding over the discovery of an additional pair of threes in Alvin's pocket, we went and delivered the letter to the airship. We weren't able to see anything inside as they wouldn't let Alvin on board, the racists."
<@Rinley> "He had fallen in love with a mermaid and when he made her a beautiful necklace, it got her the attention of the Sea King who took her as his bride. He swore to never make another piece of jewelry with love and decided to catch fish instead."
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin shudders.
<@Hisui> "That.....that's horrible!"
<@Rinley> "The Prince's courtiers took the letter and Alvin and I came home! Did you know that you have some very interesting neighbors, Dulci? They kept running away from me."
<@Dulcinea> "The same ones who blatantly refuse to run from me?"
<@Random_Nerd> (And I'm deciding to count Hisui's doubtful look as satisfying Rinley's emotion XP.)
<@Hisui> "Huh?"
<@Rinley> "Well, they probably know that you want them to run from you, Dulci. They don't want to give you the satifaction."
<@Rinley> (Yay!)

  • @Rinley will set the fancy hat on top of Hi's head. "There you go, General!"

<@Hisui> "For me?!"
<@Rinley> "For you!"
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin is currently looking at Rinley from his hiding place behind the couch.
<@Hisui> "Thank you!"
<@Hisui> [Hisui has acquired FANCY HAT x1]
<@Dulcinea> "Rinley? I must know what it is about you that's managed to scare my golem."
<@Random_Nerd> (Fancy hat is fancy.)

  • @Rinley looks Rinley-like!

<@Rinley> "I don't know, Dulci. He was doing fine before we took off from the top of the tower..."
<@Hisui> "I think it's because she discovered he cheats at cards."
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin shakes his head mutely, poking above the couch.
<@Random_Nerd> (So, shall we call it a night?)
<@Hisui> (Sounds good)
<@Dulcinea> (OK.)
<@Rinley> (Okie-dokie!)

  • @Dulcinea tries to coax Alvin out from behind the couch.

<@Hisui> (Give him an Alvin snack!)
<@Rinley> (Give him a candy?)
<@Dulcinea> (Actually, want to say what your chars are doing during the downtime first?)
<@Random_Nerd> Alvin slowly comes out, eying Rinley cautiously.
<@Hisui> (Oh, yeah!)
<@Random_Nerd> (Good idea.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Wait, which downtime?)

  • @Hisui offers a candy to Dulcinea to coax Alvin out with.

<@Dulcinea> (just tonight IC)
<@Hisui> (Between now and Bluebell Park?)

  • @Dulcinea will be creating concentrated Essence of Catnip. Either as a blade poison or some other sort of distrtaction.

<@Dulcinea> (near-future. Next session will probably start in the morning.)
<@Random_Nerd> (What do you want the catnip to be able to do?)
<@Hisui> Hisui was planning to buy catnip at a pet store....and maybe grab books from the library on the afterlife.
<@Dulcinea> (Depending on its properties, either zonk out or distract the prince during the fight.)
<@Random_Nerd> (Hmm. In spite of the fact that he isn't a cat?)
<@Dulcinea> (He is a felinoid)
<@Random_Nerd> (...he is? I don't recall that.)
<@Rinley> (I thought he was a human wearing a cat mask.)
<@Dulcinea> (Plus, some people smoke catnip. It's supposedly a milder pot-like high)
<@Dulcinea> (Did I completely goof that up?)
<@Hisui> Some people drink it in tea
<@Random_Nerd> (I mean, he's the Prince of Cats. But he isn't a cat. It's like how some of the Kings of England were French.)
<@Random_Nerd> Visually, he's just a male humanoid Rider with some catlike features in how he dresses and the like.
<@Random_Nerd> You did see a number of cats apparently fuse together into the shape of him later on, but that may have been Hedge.

STOP[edit]

<@Dulcinea> (Might still work, though. And it would definitely help if he brings a retinue.)
<@Random_Nerd> He has in the past.
<@Random_Nerd> And there's possible Hedge attacks to worry about.
<@Random_Nerd> So it's not like Nightmare Catnip would be useless.
<@Random_Nerd> Just, probably not on him.
<@Dulcinea> So it wouldn't be useless on him? Kewl! :)
<@Random_Nerd> Although... it still might distract him! Just make it extra freaky, with eyes and tentacles and stuff.
<@Random_Nerd> You can totally make lovecraftian catnip.

  • Rinley is now known as BethE

<@BethE> So, was I too Rinley?
<@Hisui> You were perfectly Rinley.
<@Dulcinea> well, if we do go with this plan... and it seems too easy for some reason...
<@Random_Nerd> Although... if you want something to help in Bluebell Park, look at the properties, and remember that you can make widgets that manipulate or are fueled by them.
<@Dulcinea> I can put together a proper Nightmare Blade for Jasper to fight with.

  • Emotions must have a tangible impact on the world.
  • People must honor customs and forms.
  • Events must repeat themselves until something transformative happens.
  • The lake must be tranquil.
  • Everyone must have musical talent.
  • A terrible power must sleep among the bluebells by the lake.

<@Random_Nerd> Like, if you wanted to make a Dueling Custom Elemental, or a Repetition Resolving Monstrosity, you could do that.
<@Dulcinea> ahhhh... the Heart's Desire Amplifier!
<@Hisui> Hisui: "I can....play the glass armonica?"
<@Random_Nerd> Let's see, it modifies or amplifies abstract concepts, so... Obstacle 3.
<@Dulcinea> that just determines points spent, right?
<@Random_Nerd> It's subtracted from the score of your will+skill, and then that's compared to the mundane action chart.
<@Random_Nerd> So... say you use nightmare parts, for the +1 tool bonus.
<@Random_Nerd> And you spend 4 will.
<@Random_Nerd> You have 2 Nightmare Science skill, right?
<@Dulcinea> Jasper, how would you feel about wearing a Cyrano de Bergerac costume?
<@Dulcinea> or possibly Inigo
<@Random_Nerd> So, that would be 7-3=4. So, it makes you feel better, and it makes something happen, and it performs the task properly and effectively.
<@Hisui> "You killed my mother, prepare to die!"
<@Dulcinea> ayep, 2
<@Random_Nerd> And if you have relevant bonds, that would help.
<@Dulcinea> Child of the Sun 2

  • Dulcinea is now known as Knockwood

<@Random_Nerd> Is that a Bond or a Connection?
<@Knockwood> Connection
<@Knockwood> 9 chars 445
<@Random_Nerd> Ah. Not the same thing as bonds.
<@Random_Nerd> I think you have no bonds by default, but can take wounds to get bonds.
<@Random_Nerd> Oh, and remember that once per story you can call up a nightmare horror to perform one task.
<@Knockwood> that would conflict with Heartlessness
<@Random_Nerd> So, are you making any Nightmare Magic contrivances?
<@Knockwood> going to hold off until the story's climax
<@Random_Nerd> Remember that, if you want to make something fast, it adds two to the obstacle level.
<@Knockwood> well, we know the fight's coming.
<@Knockwood> When is it?
<@Random_Nerd> Pretty soon after the next session starts, you can expect to get the Prince's reply.
<@Knockwood> In that case I can spend that night creating something for Jasper and the rest of the Scoobies.
<@Random_Nerd> Anyway, see you next week.
Session Close: Fri Mar 01 00:04:48 2013
