The oldest building in Covenant is the palatial home of its founding family. They owned a piece of every farm, mine, and business. In the 1800's, they smuggled slaves north on the underground railroad. During Prohibition, they trafficked moonshine between the Appalachian hills and the cities of the eastern seaboard. It is the sum total of nearly two hundred years of American history.

Now, it's the private estate of Alexander Dougal, better known as God. It is also the new heart of the city, miraculously providing electricity, food, medicine, and other essentials.

Its pantry is fed by a conveyor belt that runs through one of the mansion's many tunnels. Most of its ten-mile length, however, is a tiny cement shaft that terminates in an Army supply warehouse. Inventory is managed automatically, but a concealed terminal computer allows Dougal to place special orders.
