Arlo picks up a rock and puts it in Hannah's hand. Squeezing it quickly Hannah yips. Taking the stone back, its covered in blood. Arlo casually flips her a green Mandalay stone. He says to her, "Thats a loaner. Think of healing your hand. After its healed think about healing your entire body. It will heal all those broken bones in time. You can have the stone for a year of Amber time." Hannah goes pale and gives Arlo a dark look. "As for us, " gripping Alex's shoulder the two travel as if through a trump. The story of Brand traveling by trump without a trump comes to mind. Arriving in a crowded urban city, thick with smoke, dark crowds. The place looks like it has a large building with people coming and going, many carrying packages, pulling wagons. The place looks grungy, messy. Arlo leads her inside to what looks like a mall that was looted when civilization fell apart and then cleaned a bit and now used as part living space with stores and booths. Like a mall that a bunch of grungy swap meets had been crammed into. He speaks in Thari, loudly, and clearly no one walking by understands it. As Alex looks around she sees its a human world, mostly, but there are dwarves, some elves, a fair number of orcs, all walking around doing business. "This is a world i picked at random. It is on the Amber side of Mandalay but far enough to not be in the Amber Sway or the Mandalay Sway. Its in a region some of us call the Urth Sway though as i smell it i feel it is now actually in the Vulsarra Sway. Interesting...." He stops a large orc and asks in English, "Hey buddy, you got a coin changer there, you marketing money?" The orc nods, "I'm with the Promanade staff, ya. Whatchas trading for Colos? " Arlo pulls out a few coins, Amber silver wings, showing them to Alex, "Watch carefully". He pushes shadow shifting on it, which she feels, and they shift shape. Showing them to the orc, "South African silver dollars?" The orc looks them over, touches an electronic device to them, and says, "20 Colos each. Youse got 10, so i'll frak ya 199, I'll keep a colo for the effort". Arlo nods and makes the trade. Hands half to Alex. The orc says, "I'll give ya 2000 Colos for a hummer from your girl there." Arlo looks at Alex. "What do you say? Want to earn some Colos the old fashioned way?"

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex just lets Arlo do what he does. Trusting her friend enough to take her away and giver her a crash course shadow traveling. Amazed by her surroundings, she had of course heard of such worlds she has heard and seen images of Vulsara but being in a grimy world as this was something else. Her senses having to adjust, mostly her sense of smell. Following to the mall and the coin exchanger she calmly watches the exchange happen between the orc and Arlo. Until the last offer from the orc and Arlo his question. A scowl forms on her face near disgusted look that this was even joked about. Or well she hopes Arlo is joking. "No tyabk you kindly." Her words sound kind enough her face still holds the scowl. Looking at Arlo she raises her eyebrows "I really hope you are joking there. And why do we need coins? Shouldn't we head back right away?"

Michael James Watson

He walks away from the orc and walks "The time ratio is favorable here. We are going to walk back. I'll let you shuffle the shadow. " He walks to a food stall, looks over choices from pictures. "Two goat burritos. Hot spices. Oh hey... Is that real Tabasco? Its a home made? I'll buy the bottle.. " He hands over 20 Colo for food and a large bottle of home made hot sauce. Hands a burritto to her and walks to a sitting area to sit on a bench and eat. "You smell, hear, see, taste, and feel things. Five senses. Many worlds have a sixth sense that is psionic-mental powers. We have them as psyche powered abilities.. But once you walk the patterrn you gain a 7th Sense. ITs the Patten in your blood. Its what lets you shadow walk, raise the pattern lense, sense the direction of the pattern. You are new to it, never really pushed your shadow walking power. I am about as good at it as anyone. If you try really hard, concentrating on the pattern, you may feel a pull toward the pattern of Amber, the one in the dungeon. Behind the 7th door. " He takes a couple bites, "Well mostly goat at least.". He tastes the hot sauce, nods puts some on his burrito. "Sitting here I can feel the dungeon pattern, Rebma, Thelusia, and Diaga, as well as many others including Vulsara. I can feel Mandalay's mark. I can feel a Woven Logrus in this world which is really funny. Eat your lunch, feel the pattern in your blood"

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex follows Arlo and takes the burrito from him. With a nod of thanks. She listens to his explanation of the senses and all listening closely. When he takes a bite of his burrito so does she. A slight shrug "Eh it's food. " Alex looks around at the people until Arlo tells her to feel the pattern. With her burrito in her hands Alex just starts to stare at nothing in particular. Calming her breathing and trying to focus on the pattern trying to get a clear distinction how that feels. She humms a song. It is something Arlo might know of her. When she is really focussed in a book or study or really concentrated Alex humms a song. She just keeps in mind to push the feeling of the Abyssal mark out of the way.

Michael James Watson

He says, "YEs, the Abyssal Mark is a greedy bitch. Really wants your attention. You slip past it... there.. that touch.. its the pattern. Lets.. stand and when you have it ready, we will walk toward it.." Standing and looking east. He snaps his head west, "Well fuck a duck... Tricky pattern. Lets walk fast. Looking where he looks she sees nothing unusual. Then she sees in the crowd an Orc, a Dwarf, a man, and a smile child, 3 small poodles. The child and the man have a glowing red symbol on their forehead. "I picked a shadow at random and the pattern delivered me to a world with two mesobians. I've made the mark visible for you. I'll tell you about it later. Now, walk fast. Push your psyche hard on the feel of the pattern. Start walking, thinking of how to get there.. Walk, make it a little warmer... then less people..under a midday sun. a place like this with more treees.. start picking things to change as we walk and I'll watch to make sure you manage it well"

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex looks up with a cocked eyebrow but hten figures out who is speaking to her. Arlo would be checking on what she is sensing of course. Last thing you want is getting lost in shadow. When she manages to recognize the feeling a short nod but then snapping out of it as Arlo proclaims his desire for ducks. "WHat? Who? Are they dangerous?" A slight urge and panic is noticeable with her. Relying on her own shadow capabilities is very exciting. But just to be sure she slips her bow from her shoulder in case these folks are dangerous. After Arlo his instructions she nods slowly "Got it, pattern, focus, walking and small changes. Is the blood of Hannah needed for something or did you just do that to pester her?" Alex does start to walk in another direction then the scary Mesobians are.

Michael James Watson

She shifts shadow and does it in little steps.. Seeing the world change around her she has a powerful flash of walking the pattern and feels elation as she knows now beyond a doubt that that she is of Amber blood, as if walking the pattern wasn't proof enough. She feels Arlo wrapping her in protections but letting her guide the path. A silent suggestion to find a place to sit leads her to a rocky gezebo . Sitting down a four armed woman comes out and chitters at them. Arlo chitters back. Alex feels a touch and after a few moments starts getting the feel of the chittering..Arlo is ordering drinks. Signalling to wait, she looks around at the alien landscape with purple swaying flowers and red and blue ferns the size of elephants. The woman returns with a large bowl of various graps and a 3 gallong fruit bulb. She sticks 2 straws in it and takes Arlo's gold He says, "Gold, silver, copper, are the most common metals. Keep some coins and learn how to shift them at need. There is a b each a few shadow away i want you to see. It is a great sandy land of a million square meters where the sand is salted with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, citrines, and other precious jewels. Keep a bag of them with the gold and silver, you never know." He drinks and eats. "When shadow walking think of food or drink.. Your powers will bring you to a place with stuff you can eat. Not poison unless you were thinking of terrible food and drink laced with poison. Its all in your mind". "All languages are based on Thari. Its the language of Chaos where all languages originated. If you apply yourself in any realm to learn the native language you will find the differances between them and Thari and thus learn the language. Amberites gain languages very easily."

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex just follows instructions it feels familiar ot do so. SO when Arlo signs her to wait she waits and just looks around where they are. After the food and drinks are brought Alex nods slowly at what Arlo is saying. "Alright, beach with precious stones got it, and have a bag of precious metals. " SHe looks from the way they came from, eventho it looks different than where they really came from Alex just keeps staring. "Why were you so worried about those Mesobians? What is wrong with them? And are you certain they cannot follow us?" Alex can't help but takes her sketch book out and a piece of drawing charcoal to sketch their surroundings while they sit talk eat and drink. "Good to know about the languages would make things easier.... so you ahve me follow the pattern does it matter that i walked the primal pattern instead of the pattern under the castle?"

Michael James Watson

"Mesobians..... " He waves his hand over his forehead and a symbol appears. "Mesob is a person sort of out of place. Unbelievably powerful. Unaligned. Impervious. There are creatures like him across shadow. Beings that ignore the boundaries. Tolknor is a lot like that. Mesob is one. A Paradoxian. He travels shadow and the many different marbles. Every so often he leave behind an artifact call the Medallion of Mesob. It gives someone greater strength, powers similiar to people at the poles like Amber and Chaos. Lets them shadowwalk. lots of protections. and a whopping block of good luck and protection. (Good Stuff 3) "Early in my life i found such a medallion. Its what led to Eric to finding me."

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex nods slowly she then turns a page of her sketchbook and starts to recall the man and the kid she had seen with the symbols. Just to keep it in her memories. All the while she does listen to Arlo his explanation and show and tell of his own symbol. "So these two we saw are not of the blood, they are not of Chaos. THey both found a medalion like one you found and it gave them a symbol like that? WHich gives them powers. But does it besides powers give them also strenght to deal what might come on their paths in shadows?" She closes her eyes really trying to recal the details she had seen in such a quick glance "Even if i didn't know it i was always stronger and faster then the others in my class. BUt if they are able to move through shadow they can run into nasties that could seriously be a danger to them. Or is that what the protections are for? " She turns the book to Arlo to have him look at the drawing she did of the man and the child "did i miss something?"

Michael James Watson

"No. Looks good. They Medaliona are mercurial.. They provide strength, health. Somewhere in the region of Chaosians. Protections from many things. But they tendto stay in safer shadow when they travel. Shadow is vast. There are uncountable number of creatures able to travel shadow. Many very bizarre. Most harmless. Many dangerous. One never knows. One might spend a century in a shadow and never kniw a moment of danger. "

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex nods at Arlo his words still drawing focused at her work. "Mercurial, it is often used to describe my father as well. THough thinking about it. Mercurial within the realms of ever change, Sways swaying never rigid in position. Borders reaching out and retracting their range. Where a world can be found or created by will. Outcomes of wars can be pushed to victory. Being called mercurial almost seems irony. " Alex looks up from her sketchbook again and nods with a proud smile. "Yeah that will work. so those people will be fine then is what you say? Or more likely to be fine than not fine as they also have luck on their side. What are the chances of them having seen us? and possibly trying to follow?" Alex puts her sketchbook and charcoal back in her bag and glimpses at the 5 sided tile her father had given her... still the same flat fire as it was. Such a distracting thing that mark.

Michael James Watson

Arlo shrugs, "Shadow is big and leaving people to their own fate is the course of wisdom. " Finishing up Arlo takes to walking again. "Watch" He walks on and finds a hill. down below a medival battle is in progress. Two groups of about a thousand are fighting. One in kilts of green plaid, one in red kilts. The battle is brief and bloody and all the reds are slain. Alro puts a hand on her shoulder and walks a few minutes finding the same hill. Below the battle continues till both sides withdraw leaviing half of each side dead. He walks some more and this time the clans fight but leave the field carrying only a few wounded. The next one he finds Alex can see below that after a short furious battle there is some negotiating in the middle of the field. Dead and wounded are being removed. Pavilions on each side behind the sides have women and non-combatants. The next hill shows warriors of the two colors in vastly diverse armor and an inclusive battle. Spectators from pavilions are coming down to help the wounded from the field. The next one looks odd and once on the hill Arlo starts leading Alex to the pavilions on the green side. Warriors returning from the field seem unhurt, almost joyous, some singing. They carry wooden sticks rather then edged blades though many of the spectators have edged blades. The furious battle between bitter clan opponents seems to be fought with non-lethal weapons. Walkinig among the spectators Arlo picks up food from buffets laid out, gets a mug of mead for himself and directs Alex to follow suit. A few moments latter they walk to a hill on the other side and look down into a huge warcamp where the banners of both sides and evenly mixed. Leading her down they walk through a merchants row at the event he sits at a table watching people come and go. His armor has shifted along the way to blend in with common armor styles. "See? We can find all kinds of variations of almost everything you find in shadow. So helping someone is a personal choice, but having made the choice, there is a universe a step away where you made a different choice. Or one where you never interfered. We decide where we want to intrude, to help or harm, live or die, create or destroy. There is a BBQ merchant over there. Lets get a few sandwiches for the road and keep walking, ok?"

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex just follows as she is here to learn from Arlo. Seeing the differences in battles makes her curious but a certain sense of existential crisis comes to mind. "If all is just changeable at the whim of a thought and will, then what is real? I cannot believe only Amber and Chaos is real. That the lives of all these people in shadow do not matter. " Going hill up and down she can't stop watching the people. Following at the last one with the mug of mead she sits near Arlo watching people. "Where are we? " Looking at his armor she smiles "That is so very useful. Protected and still blending in. " After a long drink from the mug she then continues "So what should i see here? Other than the various outcomes or well infinite variations of the battle?"

Michael James Watson

"What should you see here? The mimes. Bards, The fire dancers, who knows what you might find interesting. These people reenact a famous battle in their world, when people in green and red kilts fougght each other to a stand still, eventually coming to terms, becoming friendly, joining in one nation that fought its neigbor in years of bloody battles, befoe join them in a Great nation. But this is just one shadow. " he stands, "Lets start walking. More to see. Here." He hands her the rock, the blood stained. "Take that. Focus on it. When you start walking, shift thing slowly but think of it as ;Less grass in the field on the left as I walk toward where the blood on this stone is. The grade of the road steepens as I walk toward where the blood on this stone is. The sky lightens as dawn approaches as I walk toward where the blood on this stone is. The humans of this world have green skin as I walk toward where the blood on this stone is. The sky is close to the sky of Arden as I walk toward where the blood on this stone is. Don't say all that aloud, more an inner monoluoge, but push your psyche and your pattern imprint into those thoughts"

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex drinks her mead while looking around a short nod. "Well good for then that they resolved their battles like that." Alex stands as well takes the rock and turns it in her hand. "So this is how you can pinpoint to one source specific? Like the spikes for instance?" Looking at the stone with Hannah her blood she takes a deep breath trying to focus on it and starts walking with Arlo, with toughts in mind as insteucted. Humming a little rythm, a little song. The colour of the water more like in Arden, as I walk toward where the blood on the stone is. The color of Arden's sky, as i walk toward where the blood on the stone is. The shade of grass more like Arden, as i walk toward where the blood on the stone is. The type of trees more like Arden ~to burn them~, As i walk towards where the blood on the stone is. Getting distracted now and then by a few other thoughts Alex does her best to keep her mind st the task. Trying to find a balance between her own voice the feel/pull of the pattern and the mark that wants attention now and then. All the while humming on her little repetitive song.

Michael James Watson

"There is an old question among the elders. They argued it for centuuries. Do the shadows exist on their own or do they create them by seeking them out? After the Black Road War, exposure to Chaos, discovery of Dworkin as father of Oberon, the Primal Pattern and a whole lot of crap Oberon kept from them Dworkin settled the question. They exist. A set of infinity. Everything, every version, the whole Everett-Wheeler Multi-world interpretation jazz rag. It gets even worse in Chaos. For your pruposes lets hope you never reach a state of affairs where the pattern won't serve to let you walk shadows. The Stone is like the spikes. It will always let you shift shadow to wherever Hannah Hale is. It might come in handy some day if you decide to kill her."

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex is concentrating but she does listen to Arlo his words, they make sense. Until he speaks of killing Hannah she stops and frowns looking at Arlo. "Okey she and i didn't always seem eye to eye in our youth but that was.... In our youth. I do not hold such grudges that i would want to kill her." Looking at the stone and the blood stain. "It actually seems we have put the past behind us. At least what we did to each other. She is still very bitter about her family dealings. Somewhere i get that." Alex turns to where they were walking to using this brief pause to check on her surroundings how she is doing and what she misses.

Michael James Watson

The place seems to be where she had been adding and subtracting to. "Ok, maybe not murder. Those the years are long. Seek, save, summon, the stone will help do those. The spikes are like this but they draw anyone who has had the appropriate ritual done over them. Julian was ok with people wandering in. But those people may have purposes unknown"

Amber Bronkhorst

"Alright, it is good to know how to find a specific person, i agree. For whatever reason. So this is basically what is expected of me to do with the spike. Focus on it and let me draw to where it originates from." Alex starts walking again allowing her thoughts to go back to the puzzle of following the paths towards where the blood on the stone is. "I wonder what we'll find. With the spike i mean... Not the blood. I intend to return to the camp where Hannah is with this blood."

Michael James Watson

"The spike will want to drag you to it. We will see if we can back track it. After I see how things go, I may try another method using the spike we havein the castle now"

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex nods as she keeps her mind on the blood on that stone while they walk. "Right, well it is smart to have several ways of figuring it out. A real shame that Julian and now Duncan didn't release some more info or those spikes to have others help. Now i know i know. The family is not that trusting of eachother, but isn't this for the good of Arden and Amber?" Silence for a bit so she can refocus her mind agaib on their path. "I mean. I know Duncan had a lot to deal with after his father suddenly left for Adagalasck, especially with so many rangers leaving as well. Must have doen something to his trust. Though i have no clue what he has been thinking at that point.... It is not as if he was still speakaing with me when his father left. Or for the years after that.... So my involvement might not go over well either... But he just has to suck it up... We are adults right... Just ghosting someone like this is rude... Then again i didn't get in touch with him either but in my defense i just figured he was really not wanting to have anything to do with me anymore after Julian told him. Not that anyone informed me what was going on .." Alex lets go of a deep sigh "Alright focus again..... " And she keeps walking shifting gradualy and carefully towards to where the blood on the stone is.

Michael James Watson

After a few hours Arlo says, "Ok, you have the general hang of it. It takes years to master but can be easy to pick up. Certain things are instinctive. You generally won't walk into someplace you can't breath. OR shift into an underwater place. Careful thinking about fire or wind or weather. Stop and I'll take over. We are approaching Diago Raks and you will start losing time quickly. I'm going to show you a private path of mine around Diago Raks, Diaga, and into Arden. I'll even tweak it at the end to deliver us at the Hunting camp." He starts shifting and Alex feels as if she is caught in a massive tornado of Psyche. The forest thickens and comes to a cave in the dark. Going into the cave he walks fast. The walls are covered with glowing lichen. After and hour the walls are encrusted with coins of all different types and colors and metals and shapes. "This is the Bandit Path around Diaga. Macsen discovered it. It skips into Arden with a few exits and is where millennia of bandits hard stored treasures. The walls hold vast fortunes and if you ever need 30 or 40 lbs of gold its here. Bandirs from across shadow can find the place through many different methods. The walls are filled with stuff people can take. Once we reach the Chambers its all stuff that belongs to different thief groups across shadow and that stuff is Hands Off. King Random even approves of it. He has a deal with the Thieves guild, especially since the Gray Guild is run by one of our relatives, Fisk. Don't bother trumping him. " The chamber ahead splits into thousands of tiny alcoves in a great vaulted hall. People are in various alcoves. They see Arlo and Alex and attention turns toward them but they don't interfere.

Michael James Watson

Passing through several chambers the vast amount of boxes, chests, bottles, piles of gold, is dazzling. Boxes filled with jewels and golden items. Many of the alcoves look like they are designed to show opulant wealth, as if a thief band is bragging about what they have stolen. as the chambers get smaller and start angling to a tunnel again a large alcove where the place turns from chambers to tunnel is a well lit hall filled with books of all kinds and sizes. Arlo stops and waits. A fiery light comes from around books and a dragon's giant horned head looks from behind a stack... "Arloxedra...Come to steal from my trove I see." Arlo smile, "Your trove? I seem to remember you being chewed up by a battle dragon and it was I who healed you and gave you your first books here. So, this is my trove and you are just my custodian." It chuckles a dragon laugh, "Have you brought me a snack?" "Yes, this is Alexandra Mira. Feel free to consume her."

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex follows Arlo letting her guide through shadows, after she gets orientated in the psyche whirlwinds of Arlo his power she starts to look around more. When he says something about watching out about fire Alex laughs "Fire doesn't scare me that much anymore the only annoying thing is that i lose my clothing after i encounter fire." When going through the thieves tunnels, Alex just watches and also watches the stacks of goods of the thieving bands. Hearing hte explanation of Arlo she lets out only a soft Hmpf sound. Amazed by the stacks of books of all variety Alex just stares and is grateful she can take in the view as Arlo stops as well. Before she can ask what they are waiting for she sees teh dragon and her eyes widen. A few seconds go by before she realizes what Arlo has answered the dragon. "Ey! i am no snack! " She turns her face to Arlo though her eyes remain on the dragon. "So you just casually saved a dragon and gave it books to read.... and... it lives here?" Turning her head again to face the dragon she looks with a face full of awe. Never seen a dragon up close. "Hi, nice to meet you."

Michael James Watson

This is certainly the first dragon she has seen in person and it brings its head near her. "No... not a snack. A full meal. Tell you what Dinner.. promise to bring me a couple goats and I skip the long pork dinner.. Fair deal?"

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex frowns she tries to look tough or at least not as aweful and impressed by the dragon head near her. But then again she can usually be read like a book so this dragon would not have an issue reading Alex her expression. "A couple of goats? LIke now? i do not know if we have time.... Arlo?" She looks to the side where Arlo is. "I could probably pop back and forth quickly to find a couple of goats right?" She then looks at the books and it might be just because of the tension she feels or to lighten things around her. "How do the books not burn?"

Michael James Watson

The dragon laughs snorting fire. "I don't need the goats now! But I am sure someday you'll come back by. Bring them then. As for my fire burning books, it doesn't. Im not a war dragon.. Im a loremaster. My fire is illusionary. Mostly. But my magic is strong. Arloxedra aided me in my youth and now I owe him. Call me Pathka. Its not my name, because names have power, but i answer to it." Arlo says, "We were just taking a short cut. I'll come by soon."

Amber Bronkhorst

Recovering a bit from the shock of seeing a freaking real life dragon in front of her and up close, Alex then inclines her head respectfully. "Next time when i come by i'll make sure to bring goats. Lest i wish not to be seen myself as dinner." She says with a soft smile. "And it is a pleasure meeting you Pathka, most people call me Alex. Hmm i see about the fire, ah hoped to have gain some tips on fire protection. " Alex turns to Arlo. "Yes interesting short cut, thank you for showing me. "

Michael James Watson

"Its a glitch. That's what i call them. There were zillions of things in Chaos that got tossed east when the pattern was created. What many of them were in Chaos bears no resemblance to what they are now. chunks of material in Chaos were transformed by the formation of the pattern into things. swords, doors, glockenspiels. Whatever the forces of creation were thinking about when they made worlds and peoples, and glockenspiels. This became a long twisting piece of metal. It was surrounded by rock, that shook out a chamber tipped on either end with a tunnel. The tunnel walls are strongly magnetic to precious metals. Weird. Another Chaos funcion of the space is that while on it, in its chambers, time does not pass for you. IF you know how to find the entrance you can enter the tunnel in any one of thousands of worlds then cross the chamber and exit the tunnel in any oneo f thousands of worlds, and no matter how long you spent in the chamber, not time passes when you leave it. Thats Chaos for you."

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex just listens, afterwards giving it time to sink in. "Right, well a very useful glitch it is. As long as one indeed can find the entrance. But no time passes as you are in here? Weird." She looks around again getting a feel of the place. A slight smile. "Well it is good to know this is here. In case i do need to escape something or move quickly from place to place. Though lets hope that i do not find a reason i need to flee or escape quickly."

Michael James Watson

"You will. We all do. You can start seeking the entrance one you reach the outskirts of the Diaga Sway. It goes pretty far out into shadow. Sort of like a huge boil on the Amber sway. ANd it can get you to the outskirts of Arden. Not deep, but scattered about some of the shadows that border Adren." Stepping out of the exit of the tunnel he shoifts shadow a bit, shaving it extremely finely, and Alex heres the morning sounds of coughs and horse as the camp awakes.

Amber Bronkhorst

Alex stays silent for a bit as they move after Arlo spoke. Concidering her situation and concidering where they are. And how immense the world or well universe is around her. Having known of Shadows is an absolute different than now feeling the possibilties of shadow in her own grasp. "Note to self before returning, make sure to take a couple of goats with me. " A soft chuckle "Thank you Arlo, for helping me out with this, taking your time to teach me. I really appreciate it. i want to do good."
