Cybermage:Mechanics

Cybermage uses a simple random system for skilltesting. Essentially, for every point of skill that a character has, a coin is tossed. Heads is a success, tails a failure. A greater number of successes determines the total level of success at completing the task. More difficult tasks may require more than one success to complete.

Example: Bourbon the Barbarian has a skill of 5 (above average) at Axe-Throwing. He is taking part in the annual axe-throwing contest and wishes to impress Buxom Betty. He will be attempting to split Lazy Larry's axe (which landed dead centre) in half (a la Robin Hood). This is quite a difficult task, and will be assigned a difficulty of 4. He flips his 5 coins. Heads, Tails, Heads, Heads, Tails. 3 Successes, meaning that he just misses. A good shot, but Buxom Betty doesn't give him the time of day. Sigh.
