Backstory[edit]

Mayflower was born in the Empire, the illegitimate child of a farmer's daughter and (she gathers) a wealthy Elven traveler of some importance. Her origins didn't exactly win her a great deal of respect, and ambition burned in her. She picked up traditional herbal medicine, but when discussion of finding a husband for her (and the difficulties thereof) arose, she had enough, and set out to make her fortune by any means she could, which, in her case, meant fraud and theft. While this worked for a while, it ultimately resulted in her fleeing the Empire ahead of the authorities, and she found herself sheltering in a long-forgotten charcoal-burner's hut one night... and the undead came for her.

Trapped, unable to fight the horde, Mayflower screamed a prayer for help from anyone who would listen, and, miraculously, her prayer was answered! A being of shining light, shaped like a winged unicorn, appeared before her, and granted her magical power to destroy her attackers!

...And then she learned the catch. She was now trapped by her bond to the preachy glowing horse, and it was not going to be lightly satisfied. Whether she liked it or not, Mayflower was now bound to serve the light, and the horse sent her in the direction she least wanted to travel-- further into the wilderness, forced against her will to help the powerless, to heal the injured, and to battle the darkness arising there, no matter how she protests against it.
