Bonds: Captain Morgan might be tempted to ensorcell others as I was enslaved by Harapal. I cannot let her become another Harapal. Devour is strange, even for one of his / her / its species. Perhaps more time with him / her / it will allow me to understand him / her / it. Wormrot has endured slavery too, and as such is a fellow traveler. I will protect her. Carmine risks injury in pursuit of knowledge, and I fear that while the spirit is strong, the flesh is weak. The Da'chara crime family want me dead for my past actions.

Background:

Geth'ra, of the ill-fated House Achambrae, has only recently come into his independence. A client race to the Eldarin, the Bariaur house he comes from pride themselves on their warrior ethos, particularly the use of their horns which they shape using ancestral magic shortly after birth. Geth'ra's horns are jagged, with ancient markings describing his House's history. Long a traditionalist House, Achambrae has a poor reputation now; when the Ogryn rebelled against their Eldarin masters, House Achambrae were used by the Ogryn mages as tools in their rebellion, and other Bariaur still give them a wide berth because of this fact. Some say that House Achambrae was ensorcelled by the Ogryn mages, but Geth'ra knows that some sided with the rebels though their own hubris, led astray by their fierce notion that they were destined to rule the stars in their own right, not as a client to the more powerful Eldarin.

House Achambrae fell victim to their own ambitions, and while their leaders soon realized their error, they found that the Ogryn mages mind-stealing magic bound them to the rebel cause for untold generations. While the Ogryn threat was eventually defeated, some of the rebels escaped Eldarin vengeance, and took their Bariaur mind-slaves with them. Geth'ra's family were such a group, kept tied to their Ogryn master through fell sorcery that affected each generation as it was born. With time, they became the elite warrior caste amongst the Ogryn mage Harapal's mind-slaves, and fought for their dark master in numberless skirmishes and battles.

Eventually, though, despite Harapal's dark magic, he fell to the sword of some hero, and with his death, the curse holding Geth'ra to him was finally broken. Now freed from the mind-slavery of the Ogryn mages, Geth'ra is making his own way in the world, knowing that he has committed atrocities (though unable to resist doing them) and attempting to make up for his past sins. His road is often a lonely one, many of the peoples of the lands knowing his House's reputation and fearing him or distrusting him, but his indomitable will leads him on, righting injustices and protecting the weak from those who would control them. Only through this path can he find redemption.
