Introduction[edit]

"My goodness," a flat voice spoke, the exclamation losing some force due to the lack of strong emotional inflection. "When the palace systems awoke me, I did not think it was because an Heir had found their way here. Much to be done, much to be done."

Such was the introduction of the new Heir to the Haarlock Warrant to Daedalus, the techpriest caretaker of Gabriel Chase. Held in stasis and periodically awoken to take care of run-down systems and check on the palace's defenses, he (?) is by far more machine than man, with no remaining flesh visible outside the uniform he wears. Claiming to have served several Warrant-Holders, including the infamous Erasmus Haarlock, Daedalus has become a valued member of Lunamaria's entourage with his knowledge of a vast variety of topics, especially the history and past holdings of the Haarlock Dynasty.

At one time, Daedalus served as Enginseer-Prime of the Spear of Destiny, but later became charged with the duty of watching over Gabriel Chase. He enjoyed being around the fiery and commanding personalities that have invested themselves with the authority of the Haarlock legacy generation after generation, and looks forward to the revival of the dynasty.

Daedalus' personal goals are quite diverse, from self-preservation to the gathering of knowledge about just about any topic under the many suns of the galaxy. He even has diverted some time to the analysis of human and non-human art, although he finds the latter sometimes unfathomable even to one such as himself.

Skill/Talent Snippets[edit]

  • Trade (Scrimshawer)

Daedalus scratches carefully at the piece of ivory.
Scritch. Scritch-scritch. Scritch. Scritchy-scritch.
Finally he leans back and brushes tiny pieces of material away from the tooth.
Dunking it in water and scrutinizing it carefully, he nods in approval before setting it beside a dozen or more similar works and picking up another ork tooth.
Scritch, scritch scritch.
Thus time passes at Gabriel Chase in between long 'sleeps'.

  • Chem-Geld

Animals, Daedalus thinks, examining old vid-footage of a marriage - that of Euclides Haarlock, a junior member of the House from several centuries ago - usually deal with matters of mating far better than human beings. He found the obsession with courtship behavior sometimes puzzling and often detrimental to proper functionality. Ah, well. He chalks it up to 'normal human' frailty and continues his admiration of the music played for the ceremony. He makes a note to afterwards try once again to understand human drives surrounding sex and mating rituals. It passes the time, and he never got bored of trying.
