Background[edit]

Damian was born in 1981 in Texarkana, Texas, on the state line with Arkansas. His dad was a Marine veteran turned state patrolman and his mother owned and operated a shoe store in the middle of downtown. Damian and his older brother Frank both followed their father's footsteps, enlisting in the Corps when they graduated from high school.

Damian saw action in Afghanistan and Iraq, eventually attaining the rank of Sergeant. He left the Corps a few months after the Iraq invasion, going to school at Texas A&M to study Criminal Justice. After graduating, he applied for a job with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and he received training as a Special Agent at Quantico, Virginia. Damian was assigned to the El Paso field office and worked with the Human Trafficking Task Force. Feeling an itch for action after several years of stakeouts and bureaucratic red tape, he decided to try out for the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team. He managed to get into the unit, transferred to its base at Quantico, and served with it for two years.

In 2008, the HRT was involved in a barricaded suspect situation in North Carolina. A heavily armed camp of white supremacists associated with the White Aryan Resistance had taken a local politician hostage in protest of the "illegal" election of Barack Obama to the Presidency of the United States. In the ensuing stand off, two of the supremacists and their hostage were killed and several HRT members were wounded. Damian and another HRT operator were blamed for the disastrous result and found themselves forced into an early retirement. Damian personally blames an ambitious administrator from the Charlotte field office for what happened, and he strongly suspects he and his comrade were scapegoated to contain the political fallout.

Damian has since worked in the private sector as a private security consultant and investigator. His particular specialty is dealing with missing persons cases, but he's also done jobs involving kidnappings and hostage takings. While he has never considered himself a mercenary, he has been to a few hot spots outside of the United States, and his past experience with human trafficking has resulted in him being recommended to Sanchez.
