Deadlands the Weird West Coffin Rock Colorado

This tale is set in the troubled town of Coffin Rock, Colorado. Coffin Rock is named for the large, morbidly shaped bluff looming over the town, a once thriving boom town built around The Crooked Earth Mine. Now, though, with the copper claims all but played out and people having fled the area to try and make a living elsewhere, it is just a reminder that this town once had hope.

Rising up from the plains of Kansas and crossing westward into Colorado brings a traveler to the Rocky Mountains. The rugged Colorado territory is home to many hundreds of great peaks in excess of 10,000 feet, riddled with seams of valuable minerals. Countless boom towns have sprung up to drag their fortunes from the earth’s rocky clutches.

Coffin Rock began as just a town—founded when copper was discovered in the surrounding mountains. Smaller claims came and went, and the town’s fortunes rose and fell accordingly. But it was one big strike, and the man who made it, that shaped the town’s history and current predicament. The year is 1880.

Character Files/Meta Currencies[edit]

Players should track their Bennies and Conviction in their IC headers. I will track them here. If you feel I've gotten your count wrong, ping me in OOC or via DM, and I'll fix it.

Post Frequency

  • I am asking for Two to Three posts a week commitment for this game as a general rule, with the understanding that posting might be less frequent on weekends and holidays. RL being what it is, this generally averages to 3-4 GM updates per week.
Note: If 72 hours have passed since my last GM update, I may post a new update, even if all players have not posted, to maintain momentum.

Post Absences

  • If you will not be able to post, for whatever reason, please ping us in OOC if you can so we know what is going on or post to the OOC Thread

Post Formatting

  • Please use a header at the top of your IC posts that includes at least the following information:
Character Name | Parry X | Toughness X (Y) | PP (if applicable) Cur/Max | Bennies X | Conviction X
  • If you are addressing another PC in your post, it is helpful to bold their character name as well so it stands out for them.
  • OOC blocks are fine for showing dice rolls and brief OOC comments directly related to a particular post. Please sblock if you need to include large blocks of text related to your IC post. All other OOC content should go in the OOC thread itself.
  • Do not place action statements (incl pp/bennie spends) or dice rolls in the OOC Thread. I might not keep up with those. All action statements and dice rolls should go in the IC Thread [OOC Blocked].
  • Please link all dice rolls back to your dice roller.

PVP[edit]

While there is the potential for a fairly significant amount of player vs player conflict in a game like this one, I prefer not to run games that lean heavily to that assumption. Games like that simply do not need a GM, and I would much rather spend my time running games that do need a GM.

I had a line about NPCs in here, I have removed it. I expect players to use common sense and act in character appropriately. NPCs can be dealt with however you wish. Do note that if you treat them badly, there will be ramifications in play.

For reference, what I consider PVP basically amounts to this:

Disagreements, trash-talking, and indirect actions that might affect another character but aren't made directly against that character are all potentially on the table, with the stipulation that if something just makes the game not fun for someone, we respect that and steer clear.

We will want to agree on what works for each of us in-game posts, as this is a Spaghetti Western with MEAT! There are also horror elements; the goal is fun, not to make someone uncomfortable.

If you want to do something that directly acts against another player's character, proceed based on the following criteria:

Unilateral Permission: The other player agrees to your action. No rolls are needed. Just RP it out.
Limited Permission: The other player doesn't agree that it is an automatic thing, but does agree to let the math rocks decide. Roll it out.
Declined Permission: The other player does not agree to PVP. Move on with something else.
