Kamar-Taj is a tiny hidden land in the Himalayan Mountains, in the land now known as Tibet a Plateau region in Central Asia. It is the homeland of Doctor Strange's mentor, the Ancient One, and the evil sorcerer Kaluu. Wong also stems from a family of monks living in Kamar-Taj.

Over 500 years ago, the man who would one day become the Ancient One was born in Kamar-Taj. With his friend Kaluu, he discovered the power of magic but the two friends disagreed on how to use it to protect their village. Kaluu sought to conquer neighboring villages and build a large empire. The two cast a spell eliminating sickness, disease and age from Kamar-Taj and shortly afterwards Kaluu was crowned king by the villagers under Kaluu's mind-control spell. The Ancient One tried to stop Kaluu and in their battle the village of Kamar-Taj was wiped out. Kaluu was banished to an alternate dimension. The Ancient One left Kamar-Taj and traveled the Earth for centuries, battling evil creatures, gaining the Amulet of Agamotto and the Book of the Vishanti.

He finally settled down in the Himalaya Mountains near Kamar-Taj, building a palace as his home with an order of monks to protect and assist him. In a tournament organized by the sorcerer Aged Genghis, the Ancient One won the title of Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. He took a student, who would one day become Mister Jip, but banned him from his home when he found out the student had been studying the forbidden books to increase his own power.

Feeling himself getting older and weaker, the Ancient One set out to find a student. He taught such beings as Doctor Druid and Baron Mordo but found his true apprentice in Stephen Strange, claiming that this boy would become the new Sorcerer Supreme. Mordo began to plot against Strange, though the Ancient One kept protecting him. Mordo soon left the palace and Stephen became the Ancient One's successor as Doctor Strange. The Ancient One would often assist Stephen, until Shuma-Gorath killed the Ancient One's physical body.

Kamar-Taj still today remains the site of the Ancient One's palace.

Steven Edmond Strange had always wanted to be in the medical profession, like his father & his father's father before him. He study under the best minds of England, even eager to learn the mysteries of the human body & mind - but never caring for the spirit. After establishing himself as a surgeon at a large London hospital, he was approach by Lord Alfred Mordo to join a secret organization - the Masons. Within the group he met like-minded people who believed their supreme intellect was required for the betterment of Man.

Strange started experimenting with sickness of the mind & began performing lobotomies. It was at this time he came in contact with the spirit of John Dee who Strange is a descendant of. Dee made himself known to Strange to prevent him from going down a path of Darkness & have new understanding of the spiritual world. Strange acquired mystical spells from Dee & his servant Wong.

With his mystic awakening, Strange realized that the 'brain surgery' he was doing was harmful & vowed never to do just surgery again. To atone he would be the Light against a growing Darkness, especially within the Masons. He has come to learn a secret deeper group in the Mason exist, called Ordi Mundi, who wishes to has order over the world, with them making all the rules. Strange remains a Mason, to keep tabs on them & possibly stop them from within.

In fact you could have Fury secretly using Strange, not letting him know he really is Dee. Maybe he's doing it through Wong.

Krakoa is literally a living island, a sentient ecosystem able to command all the living things native to its island body, and even its terrain. Its name was derived from the real Indonesian volcano island Krakatoa. The Island That Walks Like A Man is a very small island in the Pacific Ocean that was located close to where some nuclear bombing tests were done. The radiation somehow turned the island's ecosystem into a hive-mind entity.

The Savage Land is a hidden prehistoric land. It is a tropical preserve hidden in Antarctica. during the Triassic period where the Nuwali chose a valley in Antarctica surrounded by active volcanoes, where they installed a number of advanced technological devices in order to maintain a tropical climate. The aliens then stocked the area with all manner of Earth life over the following several millennia. They also brought over the Man-Apes, earlier hominid ancestors of "Homo sapiens". In more recent years, the Savage Land was rediscovered by Lord Robert Plunder, who took back a sample of the metal known as "anti-metal" or "Antarctic vibranium" with him. This mysterious metal had the ability to produce vibrations which would liquefy all other metals. Fleeing from those who sought to steal this discovery, Plunder took his eldest son Kevin with him for a second trip into the Savage Land. Unfortunately, the elder Plunder was killed by a local tribe of Man-Apes. There are many types of races in the Savage Land and Pangea. Examples of Savage Land races include the bird people called Aerians, the Fall People who are friends of the X-Men, the monkey-tailed Tree People, the amphibious Tubanti fish-people of the inland Gorahn Sea, the Lizard Men of Vali-Kuri City, and the nomadic cat people of Pandori. Popular races in the Savage Land are the Man-Apes, the Lemurans, the Pterons (pterodactyl-like people), the human Sun People, the Swamp Men, and the Zebra People.

Professor William Dyer, a geologist from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose hitherto unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas.

The group that discovered and crossed the mountains found the remains of fourteen ancient life forms, completely unknown to science and unidentifiable as neither plants or animals, after discovering an underground cave while boring for ice cores. Six of the specimens seem to be badly damaged, the others uncannily pristine. The extremely early date in the geological strata of these "fossils" is problematic because of their highly evolved features. Because of their resemblance to creatures of myth mentioned in the Necronomicon, they are dubbed the "Elder Things".

When the main expedition loses contact with this party, Dyer and the rest of his colleagues travel to their camp to investigate. The camp is devastated and both the men and the dogs slaughtered, with only one of each missing. Near the camp they find six star-shaped snow mounds, and a damaged Elder Thing buried under each. They discover that the better preserved life forms have vanished, and that some form of experiment has been done, though they are only able to speculate on the subject, and the possibility that it is the missing man and dog. Dyer elects, then, to close off the area from which they took their samples.

Dyer and a student named Danforth fly an airplane over the mountains, which they soon realize are the outer wall of a huge, abandoned stone city of cubes and cones, utterly alien to any human architecture. Exploring one of the cones, the men are able to learn the history of the Elder Things by interpreting their magnificent hieroglyphic murals: The Elder Things first came to Earth shortly after the Moon was pulled loose from the planet and were the creators of life. They built their cities with the help of "shoggoths", things created to perform any task, assume any form, and reflect any thought. Danforth and Dyer realize that the eight Elder Things were still alive when they find a sledge from the camp up in the city, which to their horror contains the bodies of the missing dog and man, evidently kept as scientific specimens.

They find evidence of dead Elder Things and are chased back to their plane by an ululating horror which they identify as a shoggoth. As they fly away, only Danforth looks back and sees something that causes him to lose most of his sanity, and which he refuses to describe. Professor Dyer concludes that the Elder Things and their civilization were destroyed by the shoggoths they created, and begs the planners of the proposed Antarctic expedition to stay away from things that should not be loosed on this Earth.

Latveria is a nation, an isolated country ruled by Doom, located in the Banat region. It is surrounded by the Carpathians, and also borders Symkaria (to the south) (home of Silver Sable). The common geographic description of Latveria places it as a small nation, around the area where Hungary, Romania and Serbia (Vojvodina) meet in real life. To its south is the nation of Symkaria, which is depicted as a benevolent constitutional monarchy in contrast to the dictatorship to its north. The capital city of Latveria is Doomstadt, formerly Hassenstadt (German for "Hatetown"), renamed when Doom seized power, located just north of the Kline River. The administrative center is Castle Doom.

HQ of the High Evolutionary, birthplace of Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch. Transia is a European country. It is located between Transylvania, Romania and Serbia. More than 90% of its people live in one large town (East Transia) and a number of smaller villages located at the base of Mount Wundagore. Wundagore is a mountain in the Eastern European nation of Transia. The history of Chthon and the Darkhold are strongly tied to the mountain of Wundagore. In the Sixth Century, a cult of Darkholders led by the sorceress Morgan le Fey attempted to summon Chthon but found him to be uncontrollable. While the Darkholders were incapable of banishing him altogether, they bound him to Mount Wundagore, in what would one day become Transia.

Transia was a former section of Wallachia before that country integrated with Moldavia in 1857 to form Romania. Transia broke with the two larger countries and established its status as an independent state, and was recognized 20 years later as an autonomous, neutral nation. Transia is governed by an elected official (burgomeister) who is bound by law to follow the country's constitution to the letter. The nation's main source of income comes from the uranium found in and around Mt. Wundagore -- Herbert Edgar Wyndham funded a national non-profit trust with the money gathered from his uranium mine that still provides money for Transia to operate its government programs, and thus they have no need of outside investors or a tourist market. This, along with the (intentionally-fostered) negative international image, keeps many foreigners out of Transia.

Transia (and/or Mt. Wundagore) is where Chthon is imprisoned, and was where the men of the Russoff line were afflicted with the curse of lycanthropy. It was also the birthplace of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, and of Jessica Drew. It was the base of operations for the High Evolutionary, and the source of the "radioactive clay" used by the Puppet Master.
