Overview[edit]

Ideru holds the distinction of being the first terrestrial extrasolar planet to be visited by human technology. The name is a popularization of the contact code given to the planet (ID:ERU) by the AI aboard the exploration vessel Aldrin-10. Since its discovery, the planet has also earned the nickname "Vulcan" due to its resemblance to the popular fictional planet.

Ideru is most likely an abnormally large satellite cast off from neighboring Gliese 876b, a GsP class gas giant. It is a hot, dry world marked by extensive canyon and fissure systems, likely caused by an early, close proximity with its previous parent planet. In the subsequent eras, large erosional deserts have filled basins and ridge systems, creating large dune seas in the sub-equatorial zones. Ideru is still quite geologically active, due mostly to the large amounts of subterranean water that have been retained.

These subterranean seas also play host to 90% of Ideru's native life, with another 7% existing in or near surface canyons that play host to rivers and salt lakes. Of the remaining 3%, most identified species are nomadic plant or chimeric surface-dwellers, the most famous of which is the moss fish
