THE GIFTED: SAN FRANCISCO[edit]

It had been six months since that dark day in Washington.

Reeva Page, who ran the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club, had had her henchmen murder the national leadership of the Mutant Underground to curtail any opposition to he plan to get a mutant homeland. This had crippled the principal route to safety of mutant refugees. She had passed information to the leader of the Purifiers, Benedict Ryan, her co-conspirator and national TV spokesman for opposition to the ‘mutant threat’, about the city of the Morlocks beneath Washington DC. His soldiers had gone into their tunnels and murdered most of them. The Purifier militia that did this were lauded as heroes, not one of them was prosecuted for murder.

Already shaky, the underground had been in danger of collapse. They had been running out of places to put their refugees for months under the nationwide onslaught of Sentinel Services. Lorna Dane, Marcos Diaz, John Proudstar had foiled Reeva Page’s plan to destroy the American Government, they had been at the heart of events in Washington. However, the Underground was more than three figure heads, a mass of people who knew what was right and set about bolstering their network.

In the wake of the total destruction of the Sentinel Services Headquarters in Washington by Loren and Andy Strucker the Underground rallied. The Morlocks who got out of DC were taken in across the country, Washington was not the only city with mutants living beneath it. Some stations went off line, either from being discovered or the people giving up the fight. It had been a herculean effort to get through this but they had done it. The Underground survived, it was smaller, more dispersed, each station had a bigger area to cover but it was still functioning well.

The loss of Sentinel Services had been devastating to the anti-mutant fight. Locally oppression continued but the country’s alphabet agencies had rallied round and now central control has been reestablished. They had lost a lot of people but the intel they had gathered was almost complete.

Another building had been destroyed that day in Washington DC. The top floors of wealthy apartment block had collapsed in yet another supposed mutant incident. There was nothing supposed about it, this had been Reeva Page’s base of operations. She had died there along with the threat of the Inner Circle. But like Sentinel Services the Hellfire Club wasn't gone either. Now it was run by the Lords Cardinal, plutocrats protected by their money, influence and power. The FBI and DoH had investigated and found a vast store of explosives and munitions in the basement. Also discovered was a long list of the principal arms of the government, from the Capital to the Pentagon. Reeva Page’s plan had been to use these explosives in the Morlock tunnels to literally destroy the government.

The fight goes on and the Mutant Uprising she ignited is gaining sway, more oppression is of course the natural response.
