Patient, Measured, Steady, Honourable, Competent

Garrett Maguire’s official title is Vaultkeeper. The Vault is the closest thing the Kindred of New York come to a prison. A large mansion house in Staten Island hides a high-security underground complex where prisoners and criminals are housed. Garrett’s position gives him Elysium rank equivalent to a Baron. He is a well-respected member of the Kindred community who the Prince holds in high regard due to his hard-working attitude and sense of honour.

Garrett was raised as the wealthy son of a cotton farmer in the Southern states. He followed in his father’s footsteps, gradually helping him more and more with the business. By his early thirties Garrett’s father’s health was failing and Garrett took over running the cotton farm single-handed. It was at this time that Dr. Khaladze, a strange travelling physician that had stayed at the farm for years, Embraced Garrett. The two men had formed a strong relationship and, when Garrett began to feel the strain of running the farm full time Dr. Khaladze gave the young man the release he had been craving.

Newly turned, Garrett left his ailing father and the southern states behind. He travelled for a while with Dr. Khaladze and the two spent a while in Chicago. Soon however they decided to go their separate ways. Garrett headed to New York, deciding that it was now time to establish himself in the Danse Macabre.

Garrett is a Kindred of focus and honour. A member of the Invictus covenant he has great faith that the feudal/monarchy system is the one best suited to rule over the Kindred society. Although he disagrees with them he respects the Carthians and the Lancea Sanctum for their ideals. He feels a sort of disappointed disgust towards the Ordo Dracul, Circle and, especially, the Unbound, seeing them sort of like floating voters who should be using their power to influence the state.

One of the things about Garrett, and the reason some think of him as cold, is that he rarely shows his emotions. His disgust for these covenants manifests very little in Garrett’s attitude and behaviours to their members. In fact he rarely shows much emotion in anything but this should not be mistaken for disinterest. Several of his opponents have underestimated Garrett by mistaking his introversion as indifference.

Garrett has taken 100 years to get to his current position and this typifies him. He is not rash but considered. He sees the power gradually gained as more solid than the power quickly taken. He has little love for his current job but is committed to doing it properly as he is committed to doing everything he does properly. He aims to make it to Duke in another hundred years.
