Background

Connor Thorne is a roughneck with the heart of a scholar and the soul of a god-wolf. He’s worked on a number of jobs, from ranch hand to stevedore to oilman, and he fits the image of the rough-and-tumble country boy. In truth, while he does enjoy football and drinking with buddies, he’s also a fan of classic literature, history, mythology, and poetry. He likes to spend his evenings reading critical analyses of the Kalevala, or Dostoyevsky, or the Silk Road.

He was working on an Alaskan oilfield when something happened that changed his life forever. Alone at night in the endless wilderness, Connor began having strange and eerie dreams, dreams of a wolf of impossible size, bound with a silken chain and with eyes like burning moons. Connor recognized the legendary Fenris-wolf of Norse mythology, and Fenris, it seemed, recognized him.

The cycle of destruction must end, the god-wolf breathed into his mind. Vengeance leads to vengeance; violence to violence. You understand the duality of mortals. You are a worthy bearer.

When Connor awoke his cabin had been torn to pieces as if by some monstrous force, and he was alone and naked. He soon learned that he bore the spirit of the Fenris-wolf, and with a moment of concentration he could unleash it, transforming himself into an eight-ton wolf with the power of a primordial god of chaos. Although he retains his mind and personality during these transformations, Connor has also absorbed the god-wolf’s memories, of betrayal and imprisonment and endless hungering for revenge and destruction. At times these memories are overwhelming.

Connor soon learned to use his new powers for good, fighting supervillains and monsters, and saving people from danger whenever he could. His reputation is a little sketchy, since he’s not a man in flashy tights but a literal giant wolf (albeit one that can talk), and some people consider him to be a dangerous monster. Nevertheless he perseveres.
