Grandma once had a given name and a spirit name that she was known by, not you do not know it. Young ones call her simply Grandma out of respect. She is actually the great grandmother or great aunt of those currently coming of age, such as yourself, but everyone is related to her.

Grandma attends the central hearth fire that has burned since the Great Darkness. That is her sacred duty above all else. All hearth fires come from the one she, and her predecessors, have maintained since before Time. She leads the worship of Hearthmother for all ceremonies. She dispenses food for the clan; all food is handled through her (actually another elderly woman who is appointed to the task by her). Even hunters may not partake of their own kills until the food is brought back to the clan and presented to Grandma who determines its use.

She maintains the central pot, and so long as she maintains the clan's magic properly that pot will have sustenance for the clan.

All young ones go to her to receive wisdom.

Grandma Speaks to the Young Ones[edit]

Who Are You?

You may call me Honored Grandmother formally, though informally most refer to me as Grandma. You may not use my name. Only other elders who know me in my youth have that privaledge and their are few of those, and they will not take the privilege. Learn from their wisdom.

Honored Grandmother, Who Are We?

You are part of my hearth, and thus part of the Leaping Salmon clan. We follow the ways passed on to us from Hearthmother by Votank.

Honored Grandmother, What Makes Us Great?

Our obedience and loyalty to the teachings of Foundchild and Hearthmother as passed on to us through Votank.

Honored Grandmother, What is the Difference Between Men and Women?

The difference between men and women is that men are the hunters while women are the gatherers. Men are the protectors of the tribe's safety, while women look after the sacred fires, the food supplies and bear the children. These paths were determined by our ancestors for our own good. Both are needed for a clan to survive.

Honored Grandmother, Where Do We Live?

We live on the edge of the land Balanzar in Ronswood near Dangerground.

Honored Grandmother, How Do We Live?

Men hunt and women gather. Both men and women fish as there are no instructions in our sacred lore about that pursuit.

Honored Grandmother, What Is Important In My Life?

Learning our lore and ways, learning the skills you will need to be a useful member of the clan, honoring the gods, the spirits of the land and our ancestors.

Honored Grandmother, Who Rules Us?

No one rules us, we rule ourselves. Each hearth and individual decides what to do by themselves following tradition and advice of we elders.

Honored Grandmother, What Makes One Great?

No one makes us great, each has his or her part to play in the clan. Obedience and respect to the ways of our ancestors and respect to each other makes us all great. The man who wins the title of Master Hunter of all of the Foundchild cult is great but only as a hunter.

Honored Grandmother, What is Evil?

Change is the most evil. Chaos is evil, non-humans and outlanders are also evil. None of these respect our traditional ways and all of them bring about change which is evil.

Honored Grandmother, What Is My Lot In Life?

....

Honored Grandmother, How Do We Deal With Others?

By avoiding them whenever possible. Others mean change and change is evil. When they let you flee do so but when they give you no other choice kill them.

Honored Grandmother, Who Are Our Enemies?

Those who would kill us, break our laws or try and change us.

Honored Grandmother, Who Are Our Gods?

We worship Hearhtmother, the Honored Grandmother of all Balazarings. We also worship Foundchild who taught the men how to hunt, and we worship Votank who is our original ancestor and passed on the knowledge of his parents to us. We give worship to Brother Dog for his constant companionship. We give worship to other minor spirits whom have taught us how to survive in the world and whom we owe respect and grituted to.

Honored Grandmother, What Is There To Do Around Here?

Learn our traditions and the skills you will need to survive and contribute. Honor and worship the gods and be a good tribes member. Enjoy your moments of leisure and enjoy life when you can.
