Harold James Redford

Harold was a career Colonel in the Army until his wife died. Left with a 12 year old son to care for, and not wanting him to be pure "army brat," Harold quit his commission in order to raise his son. He used his savings and retirement package to purchase the Parkfair apartment complex in Washington, DC and for the past 20 years has earned his living as a landlord for income-restricted families.

Harold and Arthur were on their own for five years and, in that time, brought closer by the sudden loss of wife and mother, they became more than father and son. They became best friends. That relationship was strained when Arthur turned 17 and Harold remarried; Arthur never liked Harold's new wife.

Prior to 9/11, Harold resided with his wife on the top floor of their apartment building in a penthouse, made from three apartments converted into one residence. After learning of the tragic events that seemingly cost him his son, Harold moved to the site of the incident in Hopewell, NJ. He hasn't said whether his wife, Gloria, moved with him or stayed in DC. In either case, she died, seemingly of a drug overdose, in 2003. Both of these events aged Harold terribly, apparently driving him to early senility, and Arthur's return nearly gave him a heart attack.

  • Since Arthur's return, Harold and Arthur have moved back in together into Parkfair's penthouse. It's unclear what he did with his house in New Jersey. He's helped the main cast out, notably by helping to set them up with a temporary retreat in West Virginia and occasionally keeping an eye on Mary Beth Manly. Harold plays the role of bumbling old man and comic relief, but never more than when there's tension in the air; it's probably little more than an old commander's act to drain the stess out of a situation.
