General Description

The Hollow Clutch is a parasitic, nocturnal predator about the size of a large crow. It combines the aerial agility of a bat, the venomous hunting tactics of a meat-eating spider, and the armored, burrowing tenacity of a potato bug.

Anatomy & Features

• Body Plan – Bulbous, segmented abdomen sheathed in overlapping chitin plates like a potato bug, allowing it to curl partially into a ball when threatened.
• Wings – Membranous bat-like wings, ribbed with flexible cartilage, allowing silent flight.
• Legs – Eight multi-jointed spider legs extend from the upper thorax, giving it both climbing prowess and the ability to cling upside down.
• Mouthparts – Dual arrangement: a spider’s chelicerae at the front for piercing prey and injecting paralytic venom, backed by a bat’s jaw structure to tear flesh once the victim is immobilized.
• Eyes – A cluster of small, glossy spider eyes with a bat’s echolocation organ at the snout tip, enabling both acoustic and visual hunting in total darkness.
• Spinnerets – Located just above the cloacal opening; used to produce silk strong enough to bind small mammals.

Shapechange

• Since the original origin of Hollow Clutch is through Dazka spiders they have the ability to change their size, as small as mice to large crow.

Creation

Hollow Clutch are created two ways.

• Normal Birth Cycle. The original Hollow Clutch was a Dazka Spider first so the two races are connected.
• Sorcerous Evolution from ‘’Dazka Spiders’’

Life Cycle & Parasitism

• Egg Implantation – The Hollow Clutch’s female injects a silk-coated egg cluster beneath the skin of a paralyzed host. The silk hardens into a cyst-like sac that resists immune response.
• Larval Stage – Tiny spider-bat grubs feed on host lymph and soft tissue, avoiding vital organs at first to keep the host alive longer.
• Metamorphosis – After 3–5 weeks, larvae emerge at night, using the bat wings to flutter to safety while their potato-bug armor shields them from the host’s dying spasms.

Hunting & Feeding

• Preferred Hosts – Small mammals, large birds, occasionally reptiles.
• Attack Method –
  • Locates prey with echolocation.
  • Clings silently overhead or burrows up from leaf litter.
  • Drops onto target, injecting venom to paralyze in seconds.
  • Bites repeatedly to feed, or implants eggs if female.

Behavior & Ecology

• Habitat – Prefers humid forests with plenty of overhangs and loose soil.
• Role – Apex micro-predator; controls small animal populations but can devastate rodent colonies or poultry farms.
• Threat to Humans – Rarely attacks adults, but may implant eggs in sleeping children or incapacitated people. Victims often report hearing “leathery whispering” before losing consciousness.
