Hon the quick was twin brother to Ille the Owl, known so because she was always watching the world. They were street urchins, brought up in the care of the Merciful Sisters, an order devoted to providing care for the thousands of street orphans in the grand city.

Hon had a reputation as a thief and pickpocket..he wasn't good, but he was fast and used his small size to squeeze through places others couldn't go. He grew up proud, stealing to take care of his sister or to help the sisters or other urchins - that's how he justified it, anyway. He killed his first man when he was 13, a knife between the ribs to a slaver who wouldn't leave his sister alone. They ran, she exalted, and the best time of their lives began.

His sister became the owl they had always named her, wise and deep and full of odd wisdom. Using her brothers street wisdom, they hatched a plan. Deep in the ruined bowels of the fringe city, they found their nest, and drawing together old friends and new, they began a robin hood lifestyle, robbing from the rich to give to the poor. The few times things got really dangerous, Ille the Owl would emerge and cast great magics, and all would be fine. Her demon servant was seen more often than her.

Then there was a night it all changed. A company of veteran mercenaries descended on the hideout, led by two god blooded brothers backed by first age artifacts. Despite Ille killing one of the brothers, the rest were slaughtered or hunted like rats while she died in her own entrails. Hon was returning from stealing when he heard her death cry. He moved to run toward their home when he was struck by a terrible, blinding light. Driven to his knees, he felt his sisters high soul pass through him and something was forever changed. In her echo of her departure, he found a new strength, a new power.

Now he roams the outer city, watching, waiting, guarding those who guarded him, righting wrongs where he can before retiring deep under the city to the place the light led him. Armed with what he was given, odd memories of a past life and rare artifacts to match them, he plans for a time when he can change things and everyone will be safe and free.

Edit: I imagine he has only been at this for a month or two...long enough to start making a difference in his old neighbourhood, but not long enough to draw the attention of the Thri-Khan or his immediate underlings. The place just has a good/bad reputation now...depending on who you are. Slaver gangs who enter his old home area keep waking up on the other side of the city with a fresh slave brand, sold into a coffle. That sort of thing.
