In Nomine is a tabletop RPG, by Steve Jackson Games, first published in 1997. It is an urban-fantasy style game, in which players typically play angels or demons, stationed on Earth, on the front lines of the War between Heaven and Hell. It is based off a French satirical RPG called In Nomine Satanis/Magna Veritas.

Rules system[edit]

The game uses a unique dice system, noted as "d666", one rolls three six-sided die, with two determining success or failure, and the third giving the "check digit" which determines the degree of success or failure and also usually being the determination of who wins in a direct conflict if both parties succeed at their rolls. In addition, an unmodified 1 1 1 on the dice counts as a Divine Intervention, which means that something happens to help those on Heaven's side, or hurt those on Hell's, and a 6 6 6 is an Infernal Intervention which means that Lucifer intervenes to help the minions of Hell, or hurt the servants of Heaven.

Characters in In Nomine have three types of Forces, each type determines how many points the character has to allocate between it's two linked Characteristics, Corporeal Forces give Strength and Agility, Ethereal Forces give Intelligence and Precision, and Celestial Forces give Will and Perception. By default, angel and demon PCs start out with 9 total forces to allocate as the player wishes between the three types (or "Realms") each Force in a Realm give a character 4 points to spend on the two Characteristics in that Realm. So a character with 3 Corporeal Forces, 2 Ethereal Forces, and 4 Celestial Forces will have 12 points to spend on Strength and Agility, 8 points to spend on intelligence and Precision, and 16 points to spend on Will and Perception.
