Backstory[edit]
As an Angel, the God-Machine inserted him into the newly formed Office of Strategic Services in the United States with instructions to act as a member of US wartime intelligence, for the purpose of evaluating whether the United States would adequately serve the God-Machine's interest during and after World War II. Eventually, The God-Machine concluded that it would prefer that Germany won the war, and sent orders to Fortune to begin to follow pre-determined protocol that would end in him rising up to leadership of the OSS, where he would then dismantle the US intelligence apparatus.
Fortune, unfortunately, had spent too long working in surroundings built upon deception. He had seen what enough hints about what the Nazis were planning, and the same adaptiveness that had served him so well in his Mission also allowed his mind the flexibility to Fall. Since then he's been staying one step ahead of any saboteurs sent by the God-Machine against him, as Sergeant Fortune knows more then anyone about the God-Machine's intentions for humanity if the war goes the way it desires.
For now, he's been assigned to a radically unorthodox group of supernatural beings. He too has been sworn to terribly binding oaths to serve the interests of the USA, and instructed to act under the role of a human "correspondent" with the mysterious shadowy leadership of this initiative.
Personality[edit]
Sergeant Fortune mostly relies on his Cover as a ruthless WWII intelligence operative. He'll do whatever is necessary to successfully complete his assignments, although he prefers efficiency then cruelty. He has very little humour nor patience for squadmates that impede progress towards their objective. He prefers to use his mundane skills, or subtle Embeds that leave plenty of room for reasonable doubt about his supernatural identity. He genuinely enjoys USO shows and is secretly bisexual.
He appears as a white man with short blonde hair and intense green eyes. His teeth are almost disturbingly white and even, and his fingers are sometimes exactly the same length for a split second after he uses Embeds. When seen from the corner of one's vision, his face gives off the impression of a very bright light, like the kind that would be shone in the face of an interrogation subject.
His Demonic personality is based around a desperate need to ensure that the Allies win WWII. Although it is a Destroyer, it has a great appreciation for the power of knowledge. The inevitability of finding the Gears of the God-Machine behind so much of what is happening around the world often leaves a bitter taste in it's mouth.
