Long ago, all humanity was enslaved by the beasts of the Night. A demon was ruling over the realm where Jagter was born. Tough luck for the demon.
When the guy grew up as a hunter, he didn't take well to being considered a slave. He opposed the dominance of demons, and roused the demon's other human slaves in a revolt, destroying his earthly kingdom.
Normally, this would have been their death. But at the same time, another revolt had started. A priest lead it, giving the humans spiritual guidance - Epemitrius, now only known as the Phoenix saint, protector against the Darkness. Jagter the Hunter joined his forces with his, became his general for this region, and was instrumental to the ensuing war against the forces of Darkness, which ended with the demons being banished.
The demon lord knows who imposed a long exile from our world, although Jagter acted from behind the scenes for a long time, but couldn't get to their spirits. Once the witch queen brought the revenants back, tough he has an opportunity for some payback. If he hasn't acted yet, he's probably just busy calculating the interests!
Jagter is not unhappy with this. After the revolt, he was known as "the Hunter of Demon-Beasts, who lead the resistance against the demon lord". Defeating him again would be like rebuilding his personal legend anew. For the demon, it would be like re-writing the history.
Both are likely to want that meeting.
