Background and Notes[edit]

James's father runs an airfield back home, just outside Arkham. It's a family business, his uncle and father having spotted the potential market with all the rich folk from Arkham wanting quick transport, joyrides, or just to outdo their rich friends.

So uncle Bob and his dad, Ted pooled their saving, took out a loan and brought a small farm with a suitably flat field and a large barn.

Dad is the businessman and Uncle Bob can take apart and reassemble anything he puts his mind too. James learned less of the business side from his father and more from his uncle turning out to be a pretty good mechanic himself. Of course the rich folk don't want to test repairs themselves and Uncle Bob did this but also taught James to fly the planes, something that he took to like a bird to the wing!

Strangely James's father, whilst recognising the business potential does not himself hold with the dangers of flying and Uncle Bob's encouragement of James has always been a bone of contention between the two. This tension boiled over when Uncle Bob was injured in a crash on a test flight for a client who wanted a plane checked over before purchasing it. Against his better judgement Uncle Bob flew the plane without the time to fully check it over first and in the ensuing crash broke both of his legs. From that point forward James's father refused to let him take any of the planes off the ground again, instead hiring, an incompetent in James's opinion, test pilot.

James joined the 13th because he heard they were using airplanes and put his transfer request in pretty much as soon as he finished boot camp!

Not one to shy away from putting his all into any venture though, he has already served the unit well forming part of 2LT John Lucas M1909 machine-guns defense against of Camp Furlong against Pancho Villa's raid on the night of 9 March 1916 in what is now known as the Battle of Columbus.
