Background:
Kalik’s parents were an acrobat duo who traveled the lands with a band of bards, thespians, and magicians, performing for their daily bread. Kalik was brought up in this colorful company, raised to be compassionate toward the downtrodden and suspicious of authority. By the time he was eight, he was performing as a third part of his parent’s act, showing an early proficiency for feats of daring on the high wire. This happy life was cut short in his early teens when the entire performing troupe was jailed by a particularly despotic baron who objected to their satiric comments on his rule. After a week in the dreary dungeon of the baron’s keep, Kalik was able to manage an escape thanks to his small stature and natural agility. Kalik sought for someone to help his parents and their extended family of friends escape, but none of the people in the village would dare raise a hand against their baron. Vowing to find a means to free his friends and family, Kalik fell in with a band of rouges and mercenaries, hoping to make his fortune.

He has traveled for some time since, working as a sellsword and neophyte adventurer, still intent on using the wealth he hopes to gain in paying off the baron’s guards or otherwise funding an uprising to free his mother, father, and the rest of the troupe. While his conscience gets the better of him from time to time, he’s learned that the danger and thrills of the life of high adventure appeal to him even more than being center stage in a carnival. He prays nightly to the Laughing Rogue for a chance to prove his worth and bring freedom to his people. Now his path has brought him to a new band of adventurers and a mysterious map…
