Description[edit]

  • Age: 22 years old
  • Height: 6'1"
  • Weight: 195 lbs

Kelnin is large, heavyset but can move gracefully when needed. His appearance is often disreputable and unkempt, particularly after days or weeks spent in the backcountry apart from civilization, and when he cleans up for polite company he often fidgets unconsciously or behaves crudely. Kelnin has dark blond hair, brown eyes, and dresses in greens and grays when he has the chance.

Background[edit]

Kelnin the Bold is a young and brash adventurer, noteworthy for his braggadocio, his daring in battle, and the cloak made from the hide of a razor boar that he wears wherever he goes. Kelnin will, at the slightest urging, relate the story of how he himself tracked and slew such a mighty beast... but those who hear the story more than once will notice that it's rarely the same tale twice, with critical details changing each time Kelnin recounts his deeds.

The truth, needless to say, is a bit more complex. Kelnin originally worked as the cohort and apprentice of one of the Watchers' most experienced and capable adventurers, Sylniera the Red Arrow, who in addition to being a capable warrior and knight-errant was also a bit of a mystic. Sometime before she met Kelnin, Sylniera had received a prophecy that the actions of 'the wearer of the razorhide cloak' would be crucial during the dark and dangerous times ahead. However, it seems that the prophecy was not as private as Kelnin and Sylniera might have thought - for about a year ago, black-masked assassins descended on the pair, killing Sylniera and leaving Kelnin for dead. The young ranger didn't have the means or contacts to bring his mentor back from the dead, let alone offer her direct protection from further attacks - and so he's embarked on a risky course, borrowing her razorboar cloak and striking out on his own to try and keep the legend alive. He figures that he may just be able to muddy the waters surrounding the whole prophecy business, possibly caused whoever sent the black-masked assassins to overplay their hand and reveal themselves through striking at him, and thereby helping to further the prophecy and give the free peoples a chance to survive the coming age of chaos. And who knows, he might even live through it all himself...
