Kosj ('small' in Draconic) was left on a jungle road in Q'Barra when he was only two or three years old, presumably in the hopes that a regularly scheduled trade caravan would find and take him. A tribe of the Cold Sun lizardfolk found him first (or perhaps the trade caravan was greatly delayed), ultimately adopting Kosj. The tribe in question holds to a druidic belief system centred on the Ebon Mother, and has a limited awareness of Dragonmarks and the Prophecy, which includes a belief/passage preserved over generation about 'having to keep the pale one safe until he grows to match his task' - and it seems that that time has finally come, although none of the lizardfolk spirit-talkers Kosj has consulted with can tell him what task he is supposed to accomplish. The tribe also adopted white dragonborn before as potential 'pale one' candidates, and one of them was responsible for teaching Kosj to read, write and speak, also including Risian, after failing to 'prove' themselves to fit the Prophecy. He also has tattoos on his forehead and upper arms to match the scale pattern and colouration of his adoptive lizardfolk tribe (so that other tribes would recognise that Kosj was not a human interloper and that killing him would bring down the retribution of his tribe.) This would also be what the attention-drawing element of his 'Far Traveler' background would key off of. The Aberrant Dragonmark is on his back, just between the lower tips of his shoulder blades, looking halfway between a burn scar and a claw wound; thin, green, vein-like markings radiate away from the Mark and run over his arms, glowing ominously when one of his powers is active. (He's also learned to cover up his back when in mammal-humanoid company and pass off the veins on his arm as part of his tattoos.) Kosj found 'his' luckstone in a crumbling ruin during his youth and wears it on a set of straps, over the Dragonmark on his back, (erroneously) believing the effect of the luckstone and his Aberrant Mark powers will not function independently.
