Last Emperor: Location: Research Base
The Type S research base is a modular construction station designed for research into subjects which require more than the usual amount of caution. Radiation, biologically hazardous studies, other planer gates, anything in fact where a sealed and isolated research facility would help ensure safety if a accident occurs.

The base is a squat cylinder, 75' in diameter and 50' tall. It is designed to be embedded in bedrock, allowing the rock to reinforce the already armored walls. There is only one access point, through the top of the structure. When buried, this access point is now at ground level.
Base Level 0 is a landing pad, an open area to accept landing craft carrying supplies. The walls on this level are either 10 or 20 feet tall. An atmospheric sealer may be added to keep the atmosphere in for the base if the base is installed on a planet without an atmosphere or an unbreateable one.
In the center is 20' square platform elevator offering access to the other levels of the base. Each level may be sealed independently of the elevator and the only access to each level is via this main elevator.
Level 1 is living quarters. There are 18 double bunk rooms for the personnel and two master suites for administrative staff. These suites can be divided into smaller rooms for more people, or left open.
The Holding cell has a ladder access to the landing pad on level 0, and the only access to the inner hall is through the security office. Both doors, and all walls, on the Holding cell are extra reinforced to hold security risks. The security office has a full base monitoring system where all rooms can be viewed and full lockdown initiatied.
The only access to the elevator is via the Elevator access room, which can also be locked. Elevator access and operation requires proper passkey.
