What is the art of magic like?[edit]

In the region where play starts, all kinds of arcane magic are known, but their practice at higher levels, and especially for payment, are tightly regulated by an oligopoly of competing mage guilds. (Decision: [1] )

The warlock patrons are a mixed bunch; some of them are much better-known to lay folk than others. Powerful fiend patrons such as the legendary Asupuxai are minor figures in mainstream mythology. The archfey are the stuff of fairytale and urban legend. The Great Old Ones are the stuff of mere rumour, their own esoteric mythos known in detail only to arcane magic-users. (Decision: [2] )

The Old Mystic language is widely used by arcane magic-users as a language of record. Many ancient 'spell scrolls' are in fact clay tablets dating from the era when this language was written in cuneiform. The word for 'warlock' in Old Mystic is often translated as 'false or rash swearer', but warlocks and many other arcane magicians maintain that it means 'maker of secular covenants'. (Decision: [3])
