I wanted to let you know I'm coming home. I am a few days yet from starting back but since the Cortex isn't what it used to be, I am writing this letter now and sending it on its way to you ahead of us. If I am lucky, it will beat me home. I will be sending another letter to Papa at the same time so he will know I am coming home, too.
I won't be coming home alone. In addition to the crew—Nika, Kiera, Joshua, Arden, and Beglan—I will be bringing my mother, father, and brother and his wife and children with me. They are from Sihnon and I got them away from a mean lady who wouldn't let them leave. But they had to leave everything behind when I got them away from her. I know living on a ship is strange for them and they miss having ground beneath their feet and a proper house with proper walls. When we come, would you show them around the place? Help them get their land legs back again? You are a big boy now and I know you can do it.
Let me tell you a little bit about my family so that they won't seem like strangers when we arrive. My Mama is taller than me, has black hair and blue eyes and a beautiful singing voice. She sings opera and had made a very nice career of it, though she hasn't sung for a little while now. My Papa is a brown man. He has brown hair and brown eyes—and when he is making guitars and balalaikas in his workshop, brown hands—and his singing voice is less like my Mama's and more like mine. His workshop was my first exposure to machines and I will always treasure the memory of it. My Papa's memory is not so good as mine and he's become a little forgetful. Don't worry about it. He has my Mama to help him remember the important things. My brother Dmitri is taller than me and has my hair and my eyes. He works with wood like my Papa but he makes boxes and jewelry and nesting dolls instead of instruments. His wife Svetlana is a very nice lady who works very hard to make a nice home for him and her children. She and my brother have three children and they are a little younger than you are, so you that makes you a big cousin. I bet you weren't expecting that, were you? Or that you would have new people to play with. They don't know much English yet but I know you and they will get along fine.
Another thing you might not be expecting is this: Joshua has asked me to marry him and because we love each other very much, I've said yes. He and I have asked Nika to marry us and she's said she would be honored to do it. Everyone is invited. I do so much want you and Papa at the wedding. In five short years I have gone from being all alone to having you and Papa and Nika and the crew and now my Mama and Papa and Dmitri. I haven't has so many people I could call family in a very very long time and I want everyone to be there when I make it even bigger by adding Joshua.
There is more I would like to tell you, but I have written so much already I will have to save the rest for when I can tell you in person. Be good, study hard, and save a hug for me. Until I can hug you back, malchik moi, this letter will have to do.
