The Sisters of Many[edit]

The Wombs of Nations, the Cnidarious Arcologies, Matrons of the Telestial

In unknown coves and deepest marine wilderness, living cities of otherworldly life, alien energy, and the promise of lust and madness swell to blasphemous size and complexity - all connected as one. From the silent colours and eldritch cacophany, the Sisters of Many are an unavoidable aspect of the Tempest.

Everliving, pan-dimensional, transentient colony organisms, the Sisters of Many resemble the most vibrant and alien of Coral Reefs. Each one is a town or even city-sized colony cluster of life form, symbiotically existing with other organisms both native and actively shaped by the Telestial Matron. Each example is of one god-like mind and intellect and paleospritual eldritch might, and each Sister can communicate with other colonies across mystical and temporal boundaries.

They are known as Telestial because they exist in many worlds, sublime and vulgar, at once. Although those in the Primordial Ocean are vastly more powerful, those eking out an existance in THIS tainted world pose a more immediate threat and are more concerned with opposing Leviathans for (physical and spiritual) dominance.

The fables tell us that Tiamat sent away a proud and haughty maiden dressed in bright colors and smelling of salt. The histories tell us that in the the most ancient aeons our mother the Primordial Dragon did elemental cosmic battle with a thieving and covetous creature her lesser and younger from beyond what later became the planets. Tearing it asunder with teeth of rain-soaked continents, Tiamat spread the remaining kin of this jealous tinkerer across all worlds. Modern Leviathans believe that the Cnidarious Arcologies' homeworld is the equivalent of the Primal Ocean on Jupiter's Moon of Europa... It has surely been centuries since anyone swam the forgotten torrents to the gatewaters of other planets- The Ruddy Gate is Closed, as we know... but across the eldritch doldrums that are the void of space. Lies the Grandmother of all Sisters.

The Wombs of Nations call to Life in both seas (Mortal and Primordial), and embraces it with hallowed evolution. Well, it's own version of it. A Leviathan Acolyte would surely dissagree on the particulars and asthetics. Nurturing, torturing, testing, and treating- in the sensate crucible of accelerated aeons, these Cnidarious Arcologies shape ecosystems across seas, worlds, and dimensions and spawn new races both fleeting and immortal- bestial AND sentient.

The Sisters of Many seek to engulf all life into one static bio-system, one complete, monstrous gnostic god-mind. Their constant experimentation, they claim, is not one of self-evident interest but merely practice for their squamous eschaton. All creatures of the Tempest, of course, are their enemies in this crusade, and that's only from an ideological standpoint. A Cnidarious Arcology will have much difficulty colonizing a seamount when a rogue Typhon or some Naga or a Cult and their Leviathan Pod call it theirs.

Those who would postulate the heresy that these Matrons of the Telestial are the vengeful, deranged, authoritarian living descendants or the remains or even the reincarnations of Tiamat face the incontrivertable truth that no creation of the Sisters of Many have ever been the equal of Tiamat's true Champions and Heralds. No rapturous, estatic, or pained life form as ever stood the tests of the Tempest to the degree of a Leviathan. Even the swarms titanic bright tenticular monstrosities spawned by a Sister are no match for a Typhon or gendarmerie of Scorpion Armigers. However, true immortality (beyond their own) is not the Matron's design- expedient fertility is. Thus the threat the Sisters of Many pose to the Earth's Most Wicked Tribe is one of numbers. Miles and miles of Hydras, Men-of-War, and legions of nine-legged calciferous starfish. Everchanging poisons of creatures soft and stone-forged threaten Pods and Cults when the beach in hordes, even if they fall to storm and maw.

The only thing a Sister of Many can birth that approaches the majesty of a Leviathan is the Avatars, and even then the a womb of nations must raid the raw material. Abducting an Atoll or potent Lahmasu, assimilating her genetic material, and then rebuilding her to the Cnidarian Mothers' own twisted desires, she emerges an Avatar of that Colony - the perfect and twisted humanoid remote of that reef's hive consciousness, armed with cosmic evolutionary power. Sometimes an Avatar will be released into a Pod's midst without any memory of her death and rebirth at the hand of the primordial alien ecosystem until she is ordered to smite and betray. An Avatar of extraordinary willpower can resist her remaker at first, but not forever. A Sister of Many can create several Avatars at once, but each will be less powerful than if she selected one maiden herald.

Not only is an Avatar a perfect infiltration tool into both Leviathan and Mortal circles, as well as intended commander of Telestial Polyp forces and equal and opposite of the Wicked Tribe in every way-- an Avatar can act as a true phylactery for an entire Sister of Many. If ever the flowing colorful madness of a Cnidarious Arcology is torn assunder and it's tool organisms destroyed, an Avatar can lay down roots in either the Primordial or Mortal Seas, and transform in body and mind into a perfect reincarnation of the Womb of Nations that created her.

Avatars of two different Sisters can breed with one another in blasphemous, reality-warping unions, and the human-body spawned offspring is the invertebrate seed for a new Sister of Many.

Once, and only once, was a True Leviathan made an Avatar of the Sisters of Many, and we do not speak Her most foul name, lest she spread her roots and spawn again.

Not all Sisters of Many are hostile towards Leviathans (and other Primordial Races). Some live content to exist, ever-lasting and ever-changing.
