Pariell and Jiriell - Federico's mom and grandfather head of the Amber underworld (his dad is Caine)
His mom apologizes and seems super fakey. Fede - loyalty to his own world. Pariell - Touching naivete. Fede suggests that they help him with "brotherhood" to disrupt chaos Pariell says she doubts the metaphysics of chaos will be disrupted by brotherhood. Fede says no - he wants to steal "the eye of the serpent" and take it to chaos. Out from under Eric's nose. Pariell: "He's no Oberon, but he's been decent to us..." Fede conspires. Anarchism. Not idealist. Not all puppies and kittens.
Alexandra and Blaise talk. She bitterly blames him. He proposes she join him and Brand "I don't trust him.." Liz: And two 'not trusts' make a conspiracy! Blaise: you should care about your cousin... he caused trouble with the pattern... crack in shadow... Eric and Corwin jointly responsible. blood on the pattern. the black road. Brand cut (someone's) throat? Keep brand away from the pattern... Blaise: there's really nothing i can offer you to make you trust me... Alex: Yup. Blaise: there's nothing i can offer you... you're of the blood of Amber so you can have everything you want... Alex: Yeah right! Blaise: ...except, you know, trust, and love, and all that. Alex: You know, i just don't care Blaise: How can you trust anyone, if you're not trustable... Your friends rely on you.
Moira writes to Manfred to ask him to go to protect diplomatic mission of Vialle and Virgil to Amber, with a letter to eric.
"I bob to the surface, then turn into my hideous demonic form..." Manfred is a chaos demon! Manfred joins the army of chaos to talk to general Posman, using the name "General Helker" Manfred calls Dara.
Hector and Janica and Eric talk with Merlin. Merlin talks about chaos a bit and reveals the person who has walked the pattern and the logrus — Manfred.
Hector suggests the history of Amber project be expanded to include a history of Chaos. They get Merlin to talk a lot about it...
Hector, picturing Merlin at british public school... (Rugby) gives a giant homophobic anti-sex lecture to Merlin (who looks like a handsome 20 year old.) He advises waiting till marriage when your liason is sanctioned by being public. (While privately thinking of all the trouble his own liason with Dara caused; if it had been public then someone would have stopped them from the terrible and confusing consequences of miscegenation.)
Manfred talks with Pozman.
Hector and Janica mention there should be a presentation of the new Amberites at court... a ball perhaps. Maybe it would get Alexandra out of her sulk. It would consolidate Hector and Janica's and the others' position at court and as supporters of Eric.
Fede negotiates with a chaos guy from house of Hendrick - in a seedy bar near the docks.
Fede calls Alexandra - "How would you like to come and kick some serious ass?" She finally comes out of her tent! Chase scene - chaos guy bleeding fire. A giant fight! flaming blood! underwater! witty banter!
Dara contacts Hector and askes for sanctuary. She implies that Dara the Elder forced her or blackmailed her into attacking Eric. She's willing to accept prison - but asks for a guarantee of safety and protection from Chaos. Hector pulls her through and gives his word to protect her. Eric comes to question her (she's now in shackles).
We learn from Dara that Brand, Fiona, and Blaise conspired with chaos to trap Oberon in shadow - house Sowal has him. Hector says to Eric that of course we must rescue him and bring him back. Though he might have had his flaws, he's the rightful king. Eric is a bit reluctant or has reservations about Oberon's qualities as king, but from Hector's point of view in spite of temptation not to, Eric does the decent, right thing. (Further reinforcing Hector's desire to support Eric, who appears to follow lawfulness and order.)
Janica suggests the court presentation or ball again, with Eric as bait so that Chaos will attend uninvited and we can attack them.
Eric calls Caine. Gerard. Flora. We discuss a major gathering of forces and invasion of the shadow world where Oberon is trapped.
Fede plots the stealing of the jewel of judgement (to destroy chaos with)
Manfred has a long conversation with Brand - a jewel-stealing plan - much metaphysics - multiple patterns - (I spaced out a lot of this though it was very interesting - I was just tired.)
