Lord-Pilot Gorey Conner[edit]

Born to a poor family and soon orphaned, Gorey learned to care for himself on the streets. He was placed in one of the standard schools, which did more to forge his desire to make something of himself than to teach him any useful skills. Out of school he learned that who you know and what you know about them can be more important than what you know anyway.

Over time, he built himself a place in all the vice trades on the planet. That gave him power and a taste of wealth, but he realized it would also always leave him a hunted man. He moved into a more back-room role, starting to run his affairs more as a business than as personal adventures. Eventually he even diversified into legitimate business -- though often in part enabled by the fact that his other endeavors provided protection that more legitimate businessmen did not have. Part of that change has been passing control of his former flagship -- the Audacity -- on to Gaius in exchange for a percent of Gaius's returns.

Now Gorey is a respected, if minor, member of the Gentry. His manners, not to mention his money keep people from inquiring too closely into his background. He has even recently be dubbed a Lord-Pilot; mostly an honorary post on this planet, but certainly a mark of respect from the community.

N.B. Lord-Pilot Gorey Conner is a player character in Bantustan, a pbp Burning Empires campaign.
