Amazons[edit]

The Amazons are an of shoot race of humanity granted mystical powers directly or indirectly by the Greek Gods. Wonder Woman is the most famous example.

Physical Description[edit]

The Amazons are human in appearance, typically tall and athletic, though always female. Beyond these traits their appearance can vary to the full degree found in humanity.

Culture/Society[edit]

The Amazons are warriors one and all, though many take on additional roles. Amazonian culture bares an extreme bias in favor of women, to the point that no males are typically allowed in their lands. Some continuities make exceptions for exceptional individuals, such a exemplar heroes and deities. The New 52 (current) continuity has it that Aphrodite created the original Amazons from clay and imbued them with the souls of women who had been killed by men. These originals made their home on Paradise Island, and would take men, infrequently, from any ship wreck that happened near enough to their island. These men would be raped and executed, with any resulting female children raised as Amazons. Male children were traded to the god Hephaestus for magical armaments. Despite the means of reproduction and the warrior ethos, Amazon society also values art, music and education in general. The Amazons are split into two tribes, though, for the most part, the differences have more to do with fashion and location than values or behavior. The Themyscirians still occupy Paradise Island (also called Themyscara), and the second tribe, the Bana-Mighdallians, occupy a hidden location in the middle-east.

Capabilities[edit]

Powers: Mega Strength, Mega Stamina, Invulnerability (Gamma [Broad Category [Physical Attacks]), Invulnerability (Gamma [Broad Category [Energy Attacks]), Invulnerability (Gamma [Broad Category [Energy Attacks]), Flight.

Merits: Quick Healer, Immortal

Character Creation notes: Amazons will almost always have a few levels of one or more fighting styles. They may also possess additional powers related to training in the mystic arts. Due to the Hephestian weapons they possess, characters may spend merits dots on magical equipment.

The Gender Issue[edit]

Players creating Amazons should decided why their character left Amazon society, and how they relate to their culture's traditional opinions of men. Characters should probably (at least initially) take the Persistent Condition Prejudiced (Men).

Male Amazons?[edit]

Theoretically, any male child of an Amazon would likely inherit the superpowers of an Amazon, though not likely be accepted in Amazon culture. The workers of Hephaestus are such people, racially but not culturally Amazons. A player may, if they wish, create a character that is 'of-Amazon-Decent', with little mechanical difference, provided they come up with a reasonable back-story.

The child of an Amazon born off-Island would have the same powers but might have any merits available to normal humans. A character raised by Hephaestus might have any number of strange items or related merits, and could potentially be quite sheltered. Does the character know the circumstances of his birth?
