Equipment and Special Items[edit]

Heirloom (Pen of the Depths): This writing instrument can be filled with octopus ink and write (even underwater) upon many different surfaces. It resembles a fountain pen, but is made out of what appears to be a crystallized tentacle with a sharp tip that can both write and engrave. A Fathomless warlock can use the pen as a superior arcane focus (adding +1 to spell attacks) and can cast fog cloud once per short rest - this magical mist even works underwater, though strong currents will disperse it in the same manner as wind. In addition, the pen counts as both calligrapher's and cartographer's supplies as long as a suitable writing surface is available (parchment, turtle shell, etc). The pen was gifted to Jetsam by his mother during the last visit she made before his father left.
Gear: Sharkskin armor (equivalent to studded leather), 2 obsidian daggers, sea silk clothing (2 outfits), book holster (for the Book of Shadows), modified explorer's pack (all items designed for underwater use - backpack, bedroll, mess kit, 10 days sealed rations, waterskin, 50' feet kelp rope, wax), component pouch (waterproof), bottle of octopus ink, 10 turtle shell segments suitable for engraving, belt pouch, 25 gold.
Expensive Components: Find Familiar (1 casting).

History[edit]

Jetsam is the child of a human father and a sea elf mother. His arrival in Da'an Du was dramatic - nearly dead of exposure, he fell from the cliff into the oasis, causing divers to rush in before the water was fouled from a dead body. To their surprise, they found Jetsam sitting calmly on the bottom of the oasis, breathing water as easily as air.

The half-elf is not a kind man - Jetsam's tongue is as sharp as a blade, and he does not suffer fools. However, he seems sincerely interested in helping Da'an Du thrive, and is almost obsessively protective of the oasis.

Jetsam's ability to create and purify large amounts of water did not endear him to the Elementalists, who consider him a competitor. However, he has forged an alliance with Sh'vala, the Keeper of the Oasis, offering his services in exchange for access. He has also cultivated allies in the Council of Judges (through bribes and threats, if you believe the Elementalists).

Appearance[edit]

Jetsam is a slender, beardless man with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. He has the elven ears of his mother, and a faint blue tint to his skin. Jetsam is dressed in flowing garments and strange armor the consistency of tough leather (which he says is sharkskin). The garments are made from sea silk, a substance unknown in Da'an Du. He wears a book holster containing a strange tome that slowly drips water from its pages, and writes in it using a pen that looks like a crystallized tentacle.
