"Mage Burned" is a condition described in many ways by practitioners of magical arts. It is typified as a mage who has used too much magic.

Depending on how a particular magical system works it refers to the condition a mage arrives at when they have performed magic far beyond their ability or endurance. As an example, a mage in many worlds who practices manna-based magics has a pool of personal manna connected to him. (Spell Points) Artifacts, drugs, magics of many kinds might add or multiply the amount of manna a mage can use to empower his spells. This pool of manna may be restored in many ways including rest, time, potions, artifacts, etc.

If a mage is using his magic in a manner that uses up his pool of magic and and is relying on artifacts and other items to fuel his magic, then loses those items, the forces of magic may draw on his life-forces to complete the magic, leaving him damaged. Some magical systems are kinder to a mage burned practitioners. High Order sorcerers using Pattern, Mark, Mal at Riess, or Logrus sorcery can suffer terribly from over extending themselves in magical creation or battle. Many types of High Order sorcery will allow the practitioner to use their powers deeply only to extract the price upon completion. A mage burned sorcerer may take heroic efforts by others to recover from overexertion. H
