Background[edit]

Malacusa Gamma was raised on the prison world of Sheol XVIII. Her...parents were servants of the Adeptus Mechanicus whose studies into biology had gone too far from the Ecclesiarchy's approved teachings, and had them branded as dangerous heretics. Only their extensive bank of valuable knowledge kept them alive, if exiled to a mostly-barren hellworld. Through various genetic experiments, they created a child who was predisposed to excellent hand-eye coordination and above-average intelligence; traits they thought were desireable for survivng on a brutal prison world. During her upbringing, Malacusa showed that she was her parents' child. She frequently studied other prisoners, and as she grew older, tried to capture a few to experiemtn on. She was convinced that she could perfect her parents original experiemtns to unlock the secret of the Astartes geneseed and create a superior specieis of humanity.

After her parents died, Malacusa managed to appeal to the Adeptus Mechanicus, pleading that she had nothing to do with her parents crimes, and renounced them as heretics. For an unexplained reason, her superiors believed her lie, and she was released and allowed to rejoin the Adeptus. At her request, she was transferred to a post on the outskirts of the region with a known history of heavy Xeno activity. Having had her share of time with ordinary humans, and failing to unlock any deep secrets from her experiements, she decided to branch out and examine Xeno species. She spent a good deal of time examining a variety of species, and with a little bit of effort, she managed to gather the information she needed under the cover of providing the Imperium with valuable onformation about its many enemies' weaknesses.

Malacusa was doing well for herself until fate itself stepped in to put an end to her newer projects. The outpost she was working at was engulfed by a Warp Storm which lasted for nearly three days. As time Malacusa spent inundated in Warp energies changed her. She received strange visions, and unnatural voices whispered secrets of life and death into her ears as she cowered from the storm's fury. While she managed to forget some of what she'd heard, bits and pieces of Warplore and the nature of Daemons clung to her memory. She unleashed her experiments on the population of the research station, and fled in the chaos, trying to outrun whoever would eventually trace the mess to her, and the information she'd learned unbidden.

Malacusa then made her way into the Koronous Expanse, where she sold her services as an Explorator to merchants and journeymen trying to explore new expanses of space. Unfortunately, her own twisted proclivities tended to force her employers to abandon her as soon as they were convinced they could do so safely. Fortunately, she came across Varla Krydiss, who recognized the value of Malcusa's knowledge, and was ruthless enough to allow the Explorator her fun as long as she didn't go overboard.
