Background:[edit]

Marn Vendigroth was born on the ice planet Hohnir III, a frozen death world in the Hazeroth Abyss region of the Calixis Sector. After the Angevin Crusade had initially conquered the region of space that became the Calixis Sector, Imperial surveyors discovered that the uninhabited planet contained extensive mineral resources. Lacking colonists willing to endure the lethal cold of Hohnir III however, the Administratum established the planet as a penal colony and granted several Calixian merchant cartels full mining rights to the planet, so long as they kept their convict work- force in line.

Several hundred years later and Hohnir III remains as a frozen gulag-planet, it's population made up of continous shipments of fresh convict-laborers mingled with the descendants of earlier generations of prisoners, who themselves work the mines or hunt the ferocious beasts of the icy wastes for their pelts and meat. Marn Vendigroth was himself one of these descendants, and he grew up learning to survive in Hohnir III's unforgiving icy climate, and take down the vicious ice predators. Life was a constant struggle, and Marn learned well how to survive and how to kill in equal measure. In time he found a way to earn a living as a hired gun for one of the many crime lords who had established themselves in Hohnir's subterranean ice caverns, and earned a reputation as a vicious gun-fighter and mercenary.

After several years of service to one of the most powerful crime lords on Hohnir III, Mordecai Sulo, he gained the notorious gangster's trust. One fateful day, Marn was sent along with some of Sulo's best men to oversee a transaction for a large shipment of narcotics in exchange for several chests full of Imperial coin and rare ivory from the Hohnir Razortusk. Just as the deal was being made, a group of unknown assailants ambushed both parties, and made off with everything - the narcotics, the coin, and the ivory. Marn survived, but he was the only one, and all of Sulo's men, along with any other witnesses to the ambush, had been killed. When Sulo learned that Marn had lived, he was convinced the ambush had been an inside job, and blamed Vendigroth for the loss. On the run for his life, he left Hohnir behind and began a life of wandering the Calixis Sector seeking demand for his lethal skills elsewhere.

Eventually, his journeys led him to Port Wander, where he had attracted the attention of the Rogue Trader, Lucius Navarre. One of Lucius Navarre's agents had witnessed Marn singlehandedly defeat an entire group of bounty hunters who had attempted to bring him back to Hohnir III to collect the bounty placed on him by Mordecai Sulo. Impressed by his skill, Lucius hired him on as a weapons master and arch-militant.

Appearance:[edit]

With an eye to practicality, Marn Vendigroth keeps his head shaved clean, which keeps his hair out of his eyes and out of an opponent's grasp. His face is cleaved by a long, ragged scar, a souvenir of his surviving the arctic hell that is Hohnir III, and his eyes are grim and hard, with a darkness behind them that belies the horrors he has witnessed and overcome. The only frivolous thing about him is the jet-black goatee he insists on keeping, no matter the occasion.
