Marnie Henderson

It would be so easy to call Marnie Henderson sleazy, or slimy, or a yellow journalist intent on muckraking and destroying lives.

To a certain extent, one could even justify it.

But it would be wrong. Marnie is a cautionary tale for journalists. The caution being, don't give up your sources, and fact check anything they tell you.

The scandal that came about because she didn't do the second, but then did give up her source, ruined her as an investigative reporter. No one would let her touch anything remotely important, not even as a copy editor.

So she found herself relegated to the gossip columns. Some would have turned bitter or mean. Some would have sought every vice that they could locate and air dirty laundry willy nilly.

Marnie's not like them. She takes her job seriously. Sure, it's not criminal investigation, but it's got its interesting spots. She's managed to find out things that no other gossip columnist could. Sordid stuff.

Sometimes, she's sent her information to the police - carefully protecting sources. Sometimes, she's made a judgement call that it's not laundry that needs to be aired.

She knows all about Lily's drug issues, but has never said word one. Some of what Lily's done could very well have gotten her back into Investigative reporting, but she's been silent. In fact, she's actively helped distract other gossips.

There's a secret there.
